The highly anticipated Jurassic World Rebirth debuted at London’s Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on June 17, 2025, and early social media reactions are buzzing with excitement. Directed by Gareth Edwards, the film has fans and critics raving about its heart-pounding action, breathtaking visuals, and terrifying dinosaurs, delivering a vibe reminiscent of the original Jurassic Park films.

Set five years after Jurassic World Dominion, this standalone sequel stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey. The story tracks a team on a covert mission to a remote island, seeking dinosaur DNA to develop life-saving drugs.

Their quest turns deadly when they encounter mutated, failed experiments, including the menacing Distortus rex, a deformed T. rex with six limbs, and Mutadons, hybrid creatures blending pterosaur and Velociraptor traits. Writer David Koepp, who penned the original Jurassic Park films, revealed the Mutadons were inspired by a bat he observed, evolving through designs with extra heads or limbs.

The film brings back fan-favorite dinosaurs like the Spinosaurus, redesigned as a semi-aquatic predator with webbed feet, stronger legs, and a robust tail, based on crocodile and bear movements.

Classics like Ankylosaurus, Carnotaurus, and Velociraptor return with updated looks, alongside new species like Titanosaurus and Diabloceratops. A highlight is the tiny pterosaur Aquilops, brought to life with lifelike animatronics featuring 3D-printed parts for realistic breathing and blinking, allowing actors to interact closely on set.

Filmed in Thailand, Malta, and the UK during summer 2024, Rebirth was written by Joe Koepp, marking his return to the franchise. The movie is set for a U.S. theatrical release on July 2, 2025. Early feedback praises its blend of awe and terror, with fresh twists like the mutant dinosaurs and a classic Jurassic feel that resonates with both longtime fans and new viewers.

Jurassic World Rebirth sounds like a thrilling return to form, with its mix of nostalgia and bold new creatures like the Distortus rex. The focus on practical effects, like the Aquilops animatronics, adds authenticity, but I hope the story matches the spectacle and doesn’t lean too heavily on mutant gimmicks.
