First Trailer Arrives for Mahershala Ali’s New Film ‘Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother’

Amazon MGM Studios has released the first trailer for Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, a new genre-blending action drama starring Mahershala Ali. The film brings Ali back into a leading role ahead of a busy 2026 slate that includes projects like Wildwood and HBO Max’s Task Season 2. According to Amazon MGM Studios and reporting from Collider, the film is positioned as both a commercial release and a potential awards contender.

The story centers on Latif, played by Ali, a deeply religious hitman trying to keep his life under control. He works in violence for a living, but also tries to stay committed to his faith and his role as a father. Everything changes after the death of his wife. With his family now at risk, Latif is pushed into a dangerous journey across Houston as enemies close in on him from multiple sides. What starts as a survival mission slowly turns into a personal crisis, as his beliefs and identity begin to break down under pressure.

Amazon MGM Studios describes the film as a mix of action and character drama, with a strong focus on internal conflict. The trailer highlights both high-intensity sequences and quieter moments where Latif struggles with guilt, grief, and responsibility. The film explores how a man built around violence tries to hold onto morality when everything around him is collapsing.

Ali spoke about the role earlier this year at CinemaCon, where he described Latif in strong terms. He said, “the most honest and complicated character I’ve read in a script,” and added that the project is “exactly the kind of movie I’ve been wanting to make.” The role continues Ali’s trend of choosing characters who are emotionally layered and morally complex.

The film also marks a notable reunion behind the scenes. It is directed by Bassam Tariq, known for Mogul Mowgli. Tariq and Ali were previously set to collaborate on Marvel’s Blade project before Tariq left the film in 2022. With Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, the two finally work together on a different project outside the Marvel system.

The supporting cast includes John Cho, Giancarlo Esposito, Tramell Tillman, Abubakr Ali, Laith Nakli, Tiffany Boone, and Adia. The ensemble adds to the film’s focus on layered characters and shifting loyalties, with several actors known for dramatic and genre work.

Production comes from Orion Pictures, with additional involvement from producers Lucan Toh and Babak Anvari alongside Bassam Tariq. The film has already generated early attention due to its cast and creative team, as well as its unusual tone that blends grounded drama with genre elements.

Release is planned in stages. The film will open in limited release in New York and Los Angeles on September 25, before expanding nationwide on October 2 and October 9. With its trailer now released, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother enters its marketing run as one of the more distinctive upcoming titles in Ali’s lineup.
