‘Fortnite’ Introduces Sidekicks: Play with Companions by Your Side

Fortnite is getting a brand-new feature called Sidekicks, and they are exactly what they sound like, little companions that follow you around while you play. Epic Games, the developer behind Fortnite, shared all the details about these new pals.

Sidekicks will be able to join you in almost every part of Fortnite, including Battle Royale, LEGO® Fortnite, developer-made experiences, and even the Festival events. They stick by your side and react to what’s happening around you, making your adventures feel more lively and fun.

You can also change how most Sidekicks look. After you get a Sidekick, you can customize its appearance in your Locker, but you only get one chance, so make sure you like the look before you lock it in. The first Sidekick you can get in Fortnite is Peels, which will be available in the next Battle Pass on November 1.

Sidekicks can also earn something called Sidekick Points, or SP, just by being with you in the game. These points let them unlock their own cosmetics, giving you even more reason to take them along on your journeys.

More Sidekicks are coming to the Shop on November 7, including Bonesy, Spike, and Lil’ Raptor. If you already own the Bonesy Back Bling, you’ll automatically get the Bonesy Sidekick on that day, though it may take a little time to appear in your Locker. Epic Games also teased that cat lovers will have their chance to get a new Sidekick soon.

It’s important to note that Sidekicks don’t give you any gameplay advantages and they can’t take damage.

They’re purely cosmetic friends who just hang out with you. You can even interact with them using Sidekick Emotes to make your time in Fortnite feel a little more fun. Epic Games says Sidekicks will only appear on islands where the Island Developer allows them.

“Sidekicks are friendly cosmetics that stay by your side,” Epic Games explained. “Bring a Sidekick with you into Fortnite Battle Royale, Fortnite Save the World, Fortnite Festival (your Sidekick will stay backstage), LEGO® Fortnite, and developer-made experiences.”

With Sidekicks, Fortnite is giving players a new way to enjoy the game with fun companions who add personality and charm to every match.
