Gambit Finally Speaks in New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Footage, and He Wastes No Time Cracking Wise
Marvel has spent months drip-feeding fans ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ teasers, each one revealing just enough to spark another round of speculation. Some characters have gotten plenty of screen time in the marketing, while others have stayed mostly silent. Gambit has been one of the quiet ones, until now.
Channing Tatum’s Remy LeBeau first appeared in 2024’s ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ where a running joke was that nobody could understand his thick Cajun accent. The role was a long time coming, since Tatum spent years trying to make a Gambit movie at Fox before the project died after Disney’s purchase of the studio. His return in the Russo brothers’ film is a long-awaited payoff for a character fans have wanted to see in the MCU.
That changed with a new teaser clip that gives Gambit his first spoken moment in the movie’s marketing. It’s only a few seconds long, but it’s already making the rounds.

In the footage, Gambit takes in the chaos around him and quips, “What is this? Some sort of doomsday?” It’s a fitting introduction for a character who has always paired danger with a wink, and it plays right into the film’s title. The line also offers a first taste of how Gambit will sound in the film.
The first full trailer had already shown Tatum’s Gambit at the X-Mansion, alongside Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto. Until now, though, fans had only seen glimpses of him.
The accent question has hung over this role since ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ Tatum told Variety that “I’m not gonna go full Cajun,” adding that Marvel executives had to think carefully about how audiences would understand him. He also said the Russos want the film to be funny without going full ‘Deadpool,’ keeping the drama tight.
Tatum has also described ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ as more dramatic than ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ even though the Russos love their comedy. The newly released line suggests Gambit will still be a source of levity amid the multiversal chaos.
Gambit’s story in the film is starting to take shape. Tatum has confirmed that Gambit takes part in a major fight against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, though a leg injury early in filming meant his stunt double handled the bulk of the action. He still filmed dialogue and non-action material.
Marketing has also teased a clash between Gambit and Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, and official Hasbro merchandise describes Gambit as preferring Cajun charm over violence. That same description warns that he won’t go down quietly when he and the X-Men face the end of their world.
The new clip arrives as the campaign accelerates. During Game 1 of the World Series on October 23, Marvel aired an exclusive preview featuring Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards throwing out the first pitch, with fan reaction reportedly mixed. A new TV spot has also highlighted the three teams at the center of the film, the Avengers, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, with fresh footage including Scott Lang.
Earlier teasers focused on Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and the X-Men. With about 7 weeks to go before release, each piece of footage is being treated like an event.

Tatum has been upbeat about the movie. On The Tonight Show earlier this month, he said he was getting to play his favorite character and told fans they are not ready for what is coming. He has also said that being an X-Man in the Avengers is beyond his wildest dreams.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hits theaters on December 18. If this first spoken line is any indication, Gambit’s charm will be a welcome counterweight to the film’s apocalyptic stakes.
