Game Freak Unveils ‘Beast of Reincarnation’, a Dark Action RPG Set in Post-Apocalyptic Japan

Game Freak is back with something completely different from Pokémon. At the Xbox Games Showcase , the Japanese developer revealed their new game Beast of Reincarnation. It’s an action RPG set in a ruined, post-apocalyptic version of Japan.
It’s coming out worldwide in 2026 and will be released for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. It’ll also be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
This game was first shown to the world in 2023 under the name Project Bloom, when it was being developed in partnership with Private Division. Since then, the publishing rights have changed hands, and a new publisher called Fictions has taken over.
Private Division was sold off to Haveli Investments earlier, which led to the change. Fictions is a new company made up of game developers and people passionate about supporting creators and unique games.
The game is being directed by Kota Furushima and follows the story of Emma the Sealer and her loyal dog, Koo. Together, they set out on a dangerous journey to stop the spreading corruption in the world and try to save what’s left of humanity.
The trailer showed off a dark, mysterious world with a strong Japanese vibe and intense-looking combat.

Mika Kurasawa, executive producer at Fictions, said in a press release: “It’s incredible to be working with Game Director Furushima-san and the renowned development team at Game Freak. We greatly value their continued collaboration and trust. We are so excited to show players a glimpse into the stunning world and intense combat of Beast of Reincarnation.”
Even though Game Freak is mostly known for Pokémon, they’ve made other games too, like Little Town Hero, Tembo the Badass Elephant, and Giga Wrecker. This new project is one of their most ambitious outside Nintendo’s platform.
The trailer featured Japanese voice acting, but the game will also have an English dub. According to the Steam page, it’ll come with subtitle options in multiple languages, including French, German, Spanish (both Castilian and Latin American), Portuguese, Korean, and both forms of Chinese.
Fictions also shared that Beast of Reincarnation will be one of their first titles, along with another game called LEGO Party!. They said more announcements are on the way soon.
