Gina Carano Says She Was Forced Through Trans “Reeducation Camp” Ahead of Star Wars Firing

Gina Carano is in recent times most notably known as Cara Dune, a pretty big character in the two first seasons of ‘The Mandalorian.’ The studio had seemingly big plans both for the actress and for her character, as she was at one point supposed to receive her own standalone show.

But, everything changed due to a series of controversial social media posts in which Carano compared anti-vaxers to Jews, and after she touched upon other sensitive topics that aren’t quite in tune with modern sensibilities and the image that Disney is trying to maintain.

In her interview with the Hollywood Reporter Gina Carano recounted her struggle with Disney and how everything started. Disney and Lucasfilm became increasingly concerned as controversies surrounded Gina Carano, particularly regarding her social media posts.

However, the tipping point came when Carano faced backlash for refusing to disclose her pronouns online in support of the trans rights movement. In response, she added “boop/bop/beep” to her Twitter bio, which she claims was not intended to mock the trans community but rather to express frustration. Carano likened the phrase to R2-D2’s sounds, but the incident sparked a significant backlash. Carano also claimed that the incident forced her to go through a “reeducation camp,” which started with a Zoom call with some trans representatives:

They said, ‘Oh, darling, I’m so sorry you stepped on a land mine.’ I listened to them and they listened to me. It was sweet and it was fun, even.

Lucasfilm requested an apology from Gina Carano, suggesting a standard statement prepared by her publicists. Carano offered to write her own apology but faced challenges in reaching a satisfactory version after multiple rounds of edits. Ultimately, Lucasfilm deemed the final statement insufficiently remorseful and opted to abandon the apology route. Instead, they enrolled Carano in media training.

She kept her sunglasses on, came into my house and sat all the way across the room, and then we started talking just normally. She said something I found very interesting. She said, ‘It’s not what you say — it’s how it’s interpreted. You’re giving very logical responses to an emotional reaction.’

Gina Carano claims she was not subjected to further media training after the initial incident. Instead, she was instructed to attend a Zoom meeting with 45 members of Disney and Lucasfilm’s LGBTQ affinity group, which she declined. Carano proposed taking a few transgender leaders to dinner, but her offer was rejected. The companies expressed that the meeting would serve as a “litmus test,” though Carano was uncertain of its implications.

Carano also implicated Pedro Pascal in everything, claiming that prior to these incidents he advised her to take the easy route:

He was telling me, ‘Just put #transrights in your feed. Do it and they’ll leave you alone. […] Because that’s not my style, to put hashtag anything, I’m also not going to put #TrumpsRights.

Following termination, Carano decided to get in contact with Elon Musk.

Carano decided to sue Disney over unlawful termination, a feat that Elon Musk will seemingly finance as he has a beef to settle with Disney in recent times, and there’s also the fact that he is a pretty strict advocate for free speech. Musk is in fact offering everyone who thinks that they were discriminated against based on their personal views by their company, financial support if they decided to search for legal means to settle their scores:

If you were unfairly treated by your employer due to posting or liking something on this platform, we will fund your legal bill. No limit.
