A Little History
The Green Lantern Corps is the intergalactic peace force within the DC Universe. They are charged with seeing that the galaxies and its inhabitants remain at bay with one another. Unlike many other teams and heroes who choose either, the Green Lantern Corps are chosen.
The teams base of operations resides on the planet Oa and the Lanterns are guided by a race of immortal beings known as the Guardians. While the Guardians may not conjure up images of power, understand that they have been around since the beginning of time.
As mentioned the Lanterns are chosen and are chosen by the ring that each wears. Once a member of parishes, whether it is in battle or not, the ring seeks out its next user. To be chosen, the wearer must demonstrate the ability to overcome great fear, evoke selflessness, and be willing to do whatever it takes to see peace in the galaxy upheld.
The ring itself gives the user power only lessened by the imagination of the user. That is, the ring can create a reality of any image the wearer can think of. Above this, the ring also acts as a universal translator, gives the wearer the ability to fly, and offers a degree of protection in just about any environment.
The Lanterns are not without weakness. While the color they represent, Green, is the color of Will, they are vulnerable to the color yellow. For it is the color of yellow that represents fear.
“In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil’s might
Beware my power–Green Lantern’s light!”
