‘Grown Ups 3’ Is Officially Filming, and Adam Sandler Is Already Charming New Jersey Locals in a New Set Video
Adam Sandler’s Netflix empire has been quietly building for over a decade, but few announcements have generated as much nostalgic buzz as the return of one of his most beloved comedy franchises. After years of speculation, the wait for another chapter of this particular story is finally coming to an end.
The comedy first captured audiences back in 2010, reuniting a group of childhood friends for a chaotic summer together, before a 2013 sequel expanded the formula with even more slapstick chaos. Now, more than a decade later, Sandler and his longtime collaborators are back together, and cameras are officially rolling.
‘Grown Ups 3’ has begun filming, with Adam Sandler spotted shooting scenes alongside co-star Chris Rock in Woodbridge, New Jersey, marking the sequel’s first confirmed production activity since Netflix announced the project back in May 2026. According to a report from Patch, the two actors were seen filming with a large crew on Wendy Road in the Colonia section of Woodbridge, with Colonia Country Club serving as a staging area for the production and catering, and additional crew members spotted near Colonia High School.
Local residents said Sandler was in good spirits throughout the shoot, taking time to pose for photos with children who gathered around the set. The Woodbridge set was struck Monday night, with no further filming scheduled there the following day, though Sandler wasn’t quite finished with the Garden State just yet.
The day after the Woodbridge shoot, Sandler was spotted filming solo, without any other cast members in tow, at Rod’s Steak & Seafood inside The Madison Hotel in Morristown, New Jersey. A local Instagram account, Morristown Media, confirmed the location after speaking directly with a member of the production crew on-site, who indicated that Sandler was expected to remain there throughout the day’s filming.
Interestingly, Woodbridge locals also spotted actress Jamie Chung in the area during the Monday shoot. Chung appeared in the original ‘Grown Ups’ film as one of Rob Schneider’s character’s daughters, though she has not been officially announced as part of the returning cast for this third installment.
Alongside Sandler and Rock, the sequel is expected to bring back Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider, reuniting the core comedic ensemble more than a decade after ‘Grown Ups 2’ hit theaters in 2013. Kyle Newacheck, who previously directed ‘Happy Gilmore 2’, is behind the camera for this installment, with Sandler co-writing the script alongside longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy.
Unlike the first two entries, which received theatrical releases through Sony, ‘Grown Ups 3’ will bypass theaters entirely and head straight to Netflix, continuing Sandler’s now well-established pattern of taking his comedies directly to the streamer. Production reports indicate the story follows the group traveling to Europe to spread a late friend’s ashes, with filming also planned to take place in Boston, Italy, and France in addition to the New Jersey locations already captured.
Neither the first nor the second ‘Grown Ups’ film fared particularly well with critics, with both failing to clear a 10% average positive score on Rotten Tomatoes, though that hasn’t stopped the franchise from remaining a fan favorite among Sandler’s massive Netflix audience.
