‘Harry Potter: The Official Film Podcast’ Is the 25th Anniversary Gift Potterheads Didn’t Know They Needed

Twenty-five years is a long time for any film franchise to hold cultural ground, and yet the wizarding world shows no signs of losing its grip. The eight-film series that began with a young boy discovering he was a wizard remains one of the most watched and rewatched collections in streaming history, and HBO Max knows exactly how to keep that momentum alive heading into a landmark year for the franchise.

The original ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ hit theaters in 2001, making this year its 25th anniversary, and Warner Bros. Discovery has moved quickly to mark the occasion in a meaningful way. Rather than simply letting the films speak for themselves, the streamer is building a dedicated space for fans to revisit them together, with proper context and insider perspective attached.

HBO Max, in partnership with production company Pod People, has announced the launch of ‘Harry Potter: The Official Film Podcast’, a 16-episode series premiering on May 19, 2026, celebrating the emotional depth, imaginative world-building, and filmmaking craft that defined a generation.

British film critic and broadcaster Rhianna Dhillon will host the podcast, joined by a rotating roster of co-hosts from across the entertainment world, offering what HBO Max describes as a thoughtful rewatch experience that balances high-level film recaps with in-depth discussion of the moments that matter most, revisiting key sequences, standout performances, and creative choices. With over a decade of experience across platforms including BBC Radio 1 and BAFTA, Dhillon brings both professional expertise and authentic fandom to the role, describing herself as a lifelong fan and proud Slytherin.

The podcast will also feature a recurring “Magic Makers” segment in which Dhillon is joined by behind-the-scenes special guests who offer insight into the making of the various films. New episodes will drop every Tuesday, with the launch kicking off with two episodes on May 19, each running approximately 60 minutes, and two episodes dedicated to each of the eight films.

The video version of the podcast will be available exclusively on HBO Max, while the audio-only version will be accessible across platforms including Apple Podcasts and Spotify. The move is widely seen as a strategic one from the streamer, positioned to both capitalize on and help drive renewed viewership of the Harry Potter films, all of which are currently available on the platform.

The podcast also arrives ahead of the new HBO Original ‘Harry Potter’ TV series, with Season 1 set to debut on Christmas 2026, promising a more faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s novels with an entirely new cast. That dual-promotion challenge is one observers are watching closely, as the nostalgia driving interest in the remake could just as easily remind audiences why the originals remain so hard to top.

For fans who have spent years debating which Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher was the most underrated or whether Neville deserved more credit than he got, this podcast feels like the long-overdue deep dive the fandom has earned. Let us know in the comments whether you’ll be tuning in when ‘Harry Potter: The Official Film Podcast’ premieres on May 19.
