‘Heated Rivalry’ Star Dylan Walsh Sparks Sequel Panic After Revealing 12 New Episodes Are Filming

Dylan Walsh may have accidentally revealed more about the future of ‘Heated Rivalry’ than he was supposed to.

The actor, who plays David Hollander on the hit hockey romance, recently found himself in trouble after discussing the show’s upcoming episodes during a personalized Cameo video. The clip later spread online, leading Walsh to temporarily step away from the platform.

In the video, Walsh talked about returning to Canada to continue filming and appeared to reveal that a much larger number of episodes could be on the way.

“Getting ready to go back up to Canada and shoot some more episodes… so, I think we’re doing 12 this time,” Walsh said.

That comment immediately caught the attention of fans because it does not seem to line up with what series creator Jacob Tierney has previously said about the show’s format.

Tierney has repeatedly indicated that he prefers keeping the series seasons short rather than stretching the story across a large number of episodes. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times earlier this year, he explained that he would rather tell a tighter story than add episodes simply for the sake of having more content.

“I don’t need to do 10 [episodes in a season],” Tierney said. “I would always rather tighten the belt than get loosey-goosey.”

Because of that, Walsh’s mention of 12 episodes has sparked plenty of speculation. Some fans believe the production could potentially be filming the second and third seasons together. Others think Season 2 could be split into two parts.

There has been no official confirmation that either scenario is happening. The situation became even more interesting when Walsh appeared to acknowledge the consequences of his Cameo video. Entertainment Weekly reported that a message on his Cameo profile said personalized videos would be unavailable until August 2027. Walsh also reportedly posted a message explaining why he was leaving the platform.

“Stepping away because a video went viral that got me in trouble,” the message read. Both messages have since been removed from his profile.

The timing of Walsh’s accidental reveal is almost too perfect for fans of ‘Heated Rivalry.’ As Entertainment Weekly pointed out, Rachel Reid’s novel ‘The Long Game,’ which serves as the source material for Season 2, includes a storyline involving a video spreading online through a Cameo-like platform.

In the series, Walsh plays the father of Shane Hollander, one half of the secret romance at the center of the story. Hudson Williams plays Shane, while Connor Storrie plays Russian hockey star Ilya Rozanov. Their characters are professional rivals who have secretly been in a relationship for years.

David discovered the relationship in the Season 1 finale after walking in on Shane and Ilya kissing, setting up an important storyline for the next chapter.

Season 2 has begun filming and is currently expected to premiere in spring 2027. However, Walsh’s comments have raised new questions about exactly how much of the story is being produced and whether fans could eventually get more episodes than originally expected.

For now, neither Walsh nor the producers have confirmed that 12 episodes are being filmed. Variety has also reached out to Walsh’s representative for comment.

Until an official announcement arrives, fans may want to treat the 12-episode figure as an accidental tease rather than confirmation of Season 2’s final episode count.
