Heath Ledger Once Shared the Film That Had the Biggest Impact on His Life

Heath Ledger is still remembered as one of the most versatile actors of his generation. His career moved easily between fun crowd-pleasers and deep, emotional roles. He earned his first Academy Award nomination at just 26 years old for his performance in Brokeback Mountain, according to awards records and film industry reports.

A few years later, his name became legendary. In 2009, Ledger won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for playing the Joker in The Dark Knight. The win came after his death, making the moment both historic and heartbreaking. His performance is still widely talked about today.

Ledger grew up in Perth, Australia, and began acting in local films and television before moving to the United States in the late 1990s. The world of Oz has continued to grow since his passing. After the release of Oz the Great and Powerful in 2013, interest in the story surged again with the film adaptation of the musical Wicked. According to box office reports, the second part, Wicked For Good, became a major global hit in late 2025.

Ledger’s life and career remain a subject of fascination. The 2017 documentary I Am Heath Ledger offered a personal look at the actor through footage he filmed himself, giving fans a deeper understanding of his creative mind.
