Here’s How Green Arrow Is Alive in ‘Injustice 2’
DC might not have the best track record for films, but the same cannot be said about their video games. One of their most popular games was ‘Injustice Gods Among Us’, released a decade ago. ‘Injustice’ was developed by Netherrealm Studios and was a Mortal Kombat-style game set in the DC Universe. After Joker tricks Superman into killing Lois Lane and his unborn child, which destroys Metropolis, he takes over the world as a dictator. Throughout the story, he takes the lives of multiple heroes, one notably being Green Arrow, who then appears in ‘Injustice 2’. But how?
Green Arrow is alive in ‘Injustice 2’ because he is from another universe. In the first game, Batman brings the Justice League from a universe where Superman didn’t turn evil, and Green Arrow was part of that team. Green Arrow stays behind in this universe to help the heroes bring down the remaining insurgents and start a relationship with their universe’s Black Canary, who was recently brought back from the dead.

What happened to Green Arrow?
When Superman turned bad, Green Arrow was one of the many heroes who opposed him, which caused him to die at Superman’s hand. While attacking the Man of Steel, Green Arrow shot at Superman, which caused an arrow to bounce off of him and hit Jonathan Kent in the shoulder.
This caused Superman to brutally beat Green Arrow to death. Before his last moments, however, Oliver Queen managed to shoot an arrow at Batman, which contained the superpowered pill that allowed Batman to fight Superman. Green Arrow was the first hero that Superman had killed, which sent him down a path where there was no redemption. After the murder of Green Arrow, Superman killed other heroes like Black Canary, which happened in the comics, Shazam, which we see in the game, and Batwoman.
How is Green Arrow in ‘Injustice 2?’
The version of Green Arrow we see in ‘Injustice 2’ is from an alternate reality where Joker’s plan failed and Superman never turned bad. In the first game, Batman brings the heroes from this universe to help him take down Superman. The Green Arrow of this universe comes back with the Black Canary of the Injustice universe, who has been resurrected by Dr. Fate and has lost her version of Green Arrow. The two of them return to this universe to fight against Superman and raise their child.
How is Black Canary alive in ‘Injustice 2’?
In the ‘Injustice’ comics, Superman successfully kills Black Canary. The heroes find that her sonic scream effectively hurts the Man of Steel and holds him back. However, he gets the upper hand and shoots her with his laser vision. This goes right through her stomach and kills her instantly.
Shortly after her death, Dr. Fate brings her back to life and gives her the life he feels she deserves. He takes her to another Earth where a version of Green Arrow is alive and resurrects her. The two of them get together and have a child on this Earth but then return to the Injustice universe when they find out their friends need their help.
Why did Batman get help from another universe?
Batman got help from another universe because Superman had either killed the most powerful heroes or they were working for him. Characters like Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and even Shazam were on the same side as Superman, which didn’t give Batman much to work with at all.
Aquaman decided to avoid the conflict altogether as Superman agreed to leave Atlantis alone. The Flash and Green Lantern eventually turned to Batman’s side as they saw Superman become more vicious as time passed. Superman even brutally killed Shazam for speaking out against him.
Batman was inspired to bring heroes from a universe in as Jon Kent, Superman’s son from the main comic continuity, accidentally ended up in the Injustice universe. This was a recent addition to the universe explored in Tom King’s ‘Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent’ comic book series.
Does Green Arrow ever return to his universe?
In the game’s main story, we never see Green Arrow return to his universe. However, if you play the challenge ladder, each hero has their own ending after defeating Brainiac. Green Arrow’s ending has him returning to his universe to warn the heroes of Brainiac’s arrival in their universe and prevent him from destroying the planet. However, this is not a part of the main story and is just part of one of the game’s arcade modes.
How is Joker alive in ‘Injustice 2?’
Another character you may notice who is alive in ‘Injustice 2’ is the Joker. How is this possible if Superman had killed him previously? Unlike Green Arrow, this Joker isn’t a multiverse variant. He was simply a figment of Harley Quinn’s imagination that was created with Scarecrow’s fear toxin. The main reason he was probably included was simply to have him be a playable character in the game due to his popularity and significance to the story.
