Hilary Duff Talks Honestly About Her 18+ Scene on ‘Gossip Girl’ With Two Co-Stars
Hilary Duff recently looked back at her time on Gossip Girl and revealed which part of her 2009 guest role as Olivia Burke stuck with her the most. In a chat with Harper’s Bazaar for their Burning Questions segment, she shared that one scene in particular left a lasting impression.
“Probably the threesome was the most standout moment,” she admitted with a laugh. Duff played Olivia Burke, a famous actress trying to live a normal college life at NYU. Her storyline led her to become roommates with Vanessa Abrams and romantically involved with Dan Humphrey.
The plot eventually included a bold scene that became one of the show’s most talked-about moments. She recalled realizing how much attention it would draw when the episode aired. “I remember being like, ‘Oh, my mom’s going to call me after this one,’” she joked.
Even years later, people still recognize her from the role, sometimes in unexpected places. “I went up to the lady who worked at the airline, and she’s like, ‘Are you on Gossip Girl?’ Yes. Love that’s how you know me,” she shared.
For someone who grew up playing wholesome characters like Wendy in Babygirl and Lizzie McGuire, this role marked a turning point into more mature acting. At the same time, Duff has been making a strong comeback in music.
Her latest album, Luck… or Something, dropped on February 20, her first full-length record in over ten years. The album includes We Don’t Talk, a deeply personal song about her strained relationship with her sister Haylie Duff.
“It’s definitely about my sister. And just absolutely the most lonely part of my existence is not having my sister in my life at the moment,” she told CBS Mornings. She explained that including the track was a hard decision, but one that reflected her real life.
The album was produced alongside her husband, Matthew Koma, and has already seen big success, debuting at number three on the Billboard 200. The couple continues to juggle work and family life, raising their three daughters—Banks, Mae, and Townes—and her teenage son Luca.
Her fans are more excited than ever as they will get to see Duff live this summer on her Lucky Me world tour, her first arena tour in twenty years, hitting major cities across North America, Europe, and Australia.
In addition to music, she is reportedly developing a documentary series to showcase her return to pop music while balancing motherhood and her other projects. While Olivia Burke remains a memorable role, Duff is focused on this new chapter of her career and personal life.
