In House of the Dragon season 2 finale, Helaena Targaryen reveals two visions about her brothers. She tells Aemond that he will die at the Gods Eye and never be seen again. She also tells Aegon that he will rule again one day, but that his future throne will be a “wooden throne.” This moment is important because it is unclear what the phrase really means.

At the time of the vision, Aegon is not present. He is fleeing King’s Landing with Larys Strong, and he has no idea what Helaena has said about his future. This leaves the prophecy hanging over the story heading into season 3.

In the ScreenRant interview, Tom Glynn-Carney was asked how Aegon would react if he heard Helaena’s words. The actor explained that Aegon is not always someone who deeply trusts prophecies, but this one might affect him differently because of his emotional state.

He said, “I don’t know. He’d probably have questions about the wood. ‘Why wood?’ would probably be the first question. I think if he’d known that, I think Aegon would probably lean into that a little bit. And at the point where he’s got no hope at all, any glimmer of hope would be useful to keep him going, keep some momentum and put fuel in the tank. So yeah, I think he’d find that pretty positive and encouraging.”

His comment shows a more human side of Aegon. Instead of treating the prophecy as pure truth or ignoring it completely, he would likely focus on the part that gives him hope. At this point in the story, Aegon is injured, isolated, and struggling to survive, so even strange or unclear predictions could affect his mindset.

The idea of a “wooden throne” is also confusing inside the story world. The Iron Throne is made of melted swords, so a wooden throne could mean many things. It could suggest a destroyed capital, a temporary seat of power, or even a symbol of a weaker and more unstable rule. The show does not explain it yet, which keeps the meaning open.

Aegon’s situation in the story is also getting more dangerous. He is not only dealing with his injuries, but also threats from both sides of the war. Aemond is still a major danger within his own faction, while Rhaenyra Targaryen and her supporters continue to push against the Greens from the opposite side.

The interview also connects to where the show is heading in future seasons. Season 3 is expected to continue the conflict between the Greens and the Blacks, with Aegon’s survival and claim to the throne still uncertain. According to production updates, the story will continue building toward a final season that will resolve the larger Targaryen civil war.

For now, Helaena’s prophecy remains one of the most mysterious elements in the story. And according to Glynn-Carney, if Aegon ever learns about it, it could give him just enough hope to push forward in a war where he has very little control over what happens next.
