Howard Stern’s SiriusXM Show Is Finally Coming to HBO Max, and Fans Won’t Have to Wait Long

Howard Stern built his reputation as the self-proclaimed “King of All Media” over more than four decades on the radio, turning morning drive time into must-listen appointment listening long before podcasts existed. For most of that run, though, the visual side of his show has stayed frustratingly out of reach for anyone outside SiriusXM’s paywall.

That’s largely because Stern’s SiriusXM broadcast has only ever offered fans brief video glimpses rather than a full look behind the scenes. With his contract now extended through 2028 and a new season on the horizon, that limitation is finally being addressed in a way longtime listeners have wanted for years.

HBO Max, The Howard Stern Production Company and SiriusXM have struck a deal to bring weekly filmed episodes of ‘The Howard Stern Show’ to the streamer starting Thursday, September 17. Each episode will adapt that week’s SiriusXM broadcast into a standalone streaming installment, with new episodes continuing to roll out every subsequent Thursday.

Stern himself framed the move as a long-overdue shift in how much fans get to see. “For years, my SiriusXM show has offered only brief video peeks,” he said. “HBO convinced me to pull back the curtain and let the world watch; the amazing celebrities and musicians who drop by, our staff antics, and my conversations with Robin,” he added, in comments shared with TheWrap.

The streaming rollout follows a broader restructuring of Stern’s on-air schedule. His new SiriusXM season kicks off September 14, and going forward he’ll host just one live show a week on Mondays, down from the two-day schedule he’d kept previously. That single weekly broadcast is what HBO Max will then adapt into each Thursday’s streaming episode.

HBO and HBO Max content chief Casey Bloys didn’t hold back when discussing what landing Stern means for the platform. “Howard has changed radio and media at large with his ability to draw the most out of his guests and cultivate a following like no other,” he said, praising Stern’s singular voice in comments reported by Deadline.

SiriusXM’s leadership echoed that enthusiasm from their side of the partnership. The satellite radio giant has emphasized that Stern’s exclusive live broadcasts and extensive archive remain committed to SiriusXM through 2028, positioning the HBO Max deal as an expansion of his reach rather than a departure from the platform that’s carried his show for over two decades.

Beyond the flagship weekly episodes, HBO Max’s version of the show is expected to include additional extras alongside each installment, giving longtime fans a fuller picture of what happens during tapings that have historically stayed mostly off-camera. Details on exactly what those extras will include haven’t been fully spelled out yet, but the emphasis has consistently been on showing more of the celebrity interviews, staff dynamics, and Stern’s rapport with longtime co-host Robin Quivers.

For a broadcaster who’s spent decades pushing the boundaries of what a radio show could be, moving into a weekly streaming format marks one more evolution in an already unusual career arc. Whether the HBO Max version changes how audiences engage with ‘The Howard Stern Show’ compared to its radio roots remains to be seen, but the September 17 premiere date gives longtime fans a firm marker to watch for.
