Hollywood’s fall party circuit has a clear centerpiece: the Academy Museum Gala. Nicknamed the “Met Gala of the West Coast,” the black-tie event has become one of the most closely watched nights on the awards-season calendar, with stars arriving fresh from fashion month.

The sixth edition took place on October 17 at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. Presented by Rolex and co-chaired by Tom Ford, Robert Rodriguez, Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, it raised more than $14 million for the museum’s exhibitions, education initiatives and public programs, and honored John Carpenter, Colman Domingo and Charlize Theron. Taylor Swift capped off the night with a performance.

But as is tradition, some of the most talked-about moments came after the formal dinner was over. A new photo of Eiza González and Zoey Deutch at Giorgio Armani’s Academy Gala after-party has been making the rounds this week, and the pairing has fans buzzing. The image is credited to photographer Krista Schlueter.

Armani hosted its second annual Academy Museum Gala after-party at Chateau Marmont on October 18, with the festivities kicking off at 10:30 p.m. The fashion house had a strong presence at the gala itself, where a long list of guests wore Giorgio Armani and Armani Privé designs, so the afterparty felt like a natural extension of the evening.

The mood was more relaxed than the red carpet. Deutch was spotted sharing a warm embrace with Colman Domingo, who had been honored the night before, with Kate Hudson joining their conversation.

In the shot, González and Deutch stand side by side in a dimly lit, wood-paneled room, with a server and guests blurred in the background. González wears a plum slip dress with a scalloped neckline and a sparkling bracelet, while Deutch wears a long-sleeved white dress printed with yellow and gray florals. Both have loose, wavy hair and relaxed expressions, giving the photo an easy, candid feel.

The two have a history of appearing together that weekend. At the gala itself, they were photographed with Amandla Stenberg and Isabel May, and Deutch wore Prada on the carpet. The after-party image suggests they stuck together as the night moved to Chateau Marmont.

The pairing has sparked a familiar kind of internet wish, a request for the two actresses to share a project. It helps that their careers have run on different tracks. González has spent the year across action and comedy and is known for ‘In the Grey’, while Deutch has worked almost exclusively in character-driven comedy and drama.

That contrast is part of the appeal. Fans see an obvious chemistry in how the two pose, and the photo has fueled speculation about what a buddy comedy or thriller with the pair might look like. Nothing has been announced, but the reaction shows how much appetite there is for a team-up.

The Academy Museum Gala has a reputation for fashion, but this year’s edition also delivered plenty of memorable interactions. W Magazine noted that many of the night’s best moments happened once everyone was inside, from dinner conversations to candid photos away from the scrum of photographers.

The after-party extends that tradition. Armani’s event brought a more intimate atmosphere at Chateau Marmont, and the images that emerged feel like a glimpse behind the velvet rope.

Sometimes the best celebrity photos are the simplest ones, two friends in good dresses with nothing to prove. González and Deutch have turned a quick snapshot into a conversation about what could come next, and in a season full of red carpets, that is a win.

What kind of movie should Eiza González and Zoey Deutch make together?
