Casting a beloved comic book character always comes with an unspoken understanding that the actor will need to physically transform for the role, and fans have wasted no time speculating about exactly what that process might look like. For Marvel’s newest addition to its rebooted mutant lineup, that speculation has already turned into a running joke.

Inde Navarrette’s meteoric rise over the past year has been nothing short of remarkable, going from a supporting role on a canceled CW show to becoming one of the breakout stars of 2026 thanks to the surprise horror hit “Obsession.” That momentum carried straight into her official confirmation as Rogue in Marvel’s upcoming “X-Men” reboot, revealed during Disney’s D23 panel.

Now, a viral clip poking fun at that transition has taken off online, showing Navarrette appearing to struggle through a workout with the caption, “Today I don’t feel like doing anything.” The video has been paired with a tongue-in-cheek caption suggesting she “won’t be able to survive the fitness test for playing Rogue,” playing into the assumption that superhero casting inevitably comes with grueling physical training regimens.

The joke has resonated widely with fans, who’ve spent the past week reveling in just how unexpected Navarrette’s casting felt given her career trajectory up to this point. Just six months before landing the role, she was a supporting cast member on a canceled series, making her jump to leading a major Marvel franchise one of the fastest rises among any actor currently attached to the studio’s mutant reboot.

Navarrette, 25, hails from Tucson, Arizona, and spent years building her career in television before her breakout moment arrived. She appeared in a recurring role on “13 Reasons Why” before landing a more prominent part as Sarah Cushing, Lana Lang’s daughter, across all four seasons of “Superman & Lois.”

Her career trajectory shifted dramatically following the release of “Obsession,” Curry Barker’s horror film that turned a roughly 750,000 dollar production budget into a box office phenomenon. The film’s grassroots success, fueled largely by word-of-mouth and social media momentum, helped establish Navarrette as one of the most talked-about rising stars in Hollywood almost overnight.

That breakout timing lined up almost perfectly with Marvel’s ongoing casting process for its rebooted “X-Men” film. Navarrette was officially revealed as Rogue during Friday’s D23 panel, joining a growing ensemble ahead of the film’s May 5, 2028, release date under director Jake Schreier.

A Casting Twist Even Navarrette Didn’t See Coming

Interestingly, Rogue wasn’t necessarily the role Navarrette expected to land. During her post-“Obsession” press tour, she had openly campaigned to play Mystique instead, even confirming she’d met with Schreier to discuss the shapeshifting character before ultimately being cast as Rogue.

The casting has also drawn a notable reaction from within the franchise’s broader legacy. Lenore Zann, who voiced Rogue in the beloved 1990s “X-Men” animated series, welcomed Navarrette to the role in a video, a full-circle moment given that Zann had previously encouraged whoever eventually took on the live-action role to study the animated series for inspiration.

Navarrette now joins an ensemble that includes Maya Boyd as Storm, Sadie Sink reprising her “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” role as Jean Grey, and Adam Driver as the film’s villain. With cameras set to roll on the project next year, fans can expect plenty more lighthearted moments like this viral workout clip as Navarrette’s transformation into one of Marvel’s most iconic mutants continues to unfold in the public eye.

After her breakout in Obsession and her casting as Rogue in Marvel’s X-Men reboot, do you think Inde Navarrette can make the role her own?
