The spooky world of Five Nights at Freddy’s is coming back to the big screen, and it sounds like things are going to get even darker. The sequel to the 2023 movie is officially happening.

This new one is called Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, and it continues the story from the first film. Emma Tammi is directing again, and the script was written by Scott Cawthon, the creator of the original game series.

Lots of the actors from the first movie are returning. Josh Hutcherson will be back as Mike Schmidt. Elizabeth Lail is returning as Vanessa, Piper Rubio is coming back as Abby, and Matthew Lillard is once again playing William Afton.

Some fresh faces are joining the cast too, like Skeet Ulrich, Wayne Knight, Mckenna Grace, and Teo Briones. But not all the new roles have been revealed yet.

Industry insider Daniel Richtman shared some interesting info on his Patreon recently. According to him, “I can confirm that Skeet Ulrich is playing Henry Emily.” That name will be familiar to fans of the games, since Henry is a very important character in the lore.

Richtman also said that the movie will show several flashbacks to the 1980s. These scenes are spread out through the movie and include one where “Charlotte — Henry Emily’s daughter — dies in the 1983 flashback scenes.”

The idea for a second FNAF movie isn’t new. Back in 2018, Scott Cawthon mentioned that they would only make another film if the first one did well. Fast forward to early 2024, and Josh Hutcherson confirmed that a sequel was in the works. Blumhouse Productions made it official a few months later in April.

Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is also returning to build the animatronics. So fans can expect the same creepy, lifelike designs from the first movie, maybe even better this time.

Filming started in November 2024 and wrapped up in February 2025. Matthew Lillard had already hinted at this when he said in October 2024 that filming would begin near the end of the month. He also signed on to be in three FNAF movies, so we’re likely to see more of his character later.

The movie is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on December 5, 2025. Universal Pictures is handling the release.
