‘Invincible’ Creator Robert Kirkman Confirms Future Episodes Will Deviate From the Comics With New Storylines
Invincible creator Robert Kirkman has shared that the Prime Video animated series will continue to step away from the original comic book storylines in future seasons.
The show is still based on Kirkman’s comic series, but he made it clear that the adaptation is not meant to follow the source material word for word. Instead, the team is planning to keep building new stories as the series grows.
In an interview with The Direct during the promotion of Invincible Season 4, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Kirkman talked about how the writers are adding new ideas to the show. He said the team has plenty of material to work with and that future episodes will include more original content that does not come directly from the comics.
Kirkman said, “I mean, any lack of new storylines in the television show is not due to a dearth of ideas from the writers. The writers on the show have tons of ideas, and so, yeah, you can expect more side quests and things that will be working their way into the overall narrative of the show as we go on, just because it’s exciting to us and it’s a fun thing to do.”
He also explained that the creative team has been exploring parts of the Invincible universe that were not fully used in the comics. This allows the show to feel familiar to fans of the original story while also adding new material that is unique to the TV version.

Co-showrunner Simon Racioppa also spoke about this approach, saying that any new storyline has to feel natural to the series. He explained that nothing should feel random or disconnected, and every episode still needs to matter to the overall story. Since each season only has eight episodes, the goal is to make sure every part pushes the main character, Mark Grayson, forward.
Even though Kirkman and Racioppa did not reveal specific future plots, they confirmed that more changes and additions are coming. This means fans should expect surprises as the series continues beyond the comic storyline.
With these changes, Invincible is moving further into its own version of the story, mixing the original comic with new ideas made specifically for the animated series.
