When a Hollywood star shows up glowing at a premiere for a movie they are not technically in, people are going to talk. That is exactly what happened when Adria Arjona stepped onto the red carpet for the London premiere of ‘Supergirl’, wearing a stunning red gown that commanded every camera in the room.

Her presence alone turned what could have been a routine press event into one of the most discussed moments of the DCU’s promotional rollout.

To understand why the internet lit up, you have to zoom out a little. Arjona is dating Jason Momoa, who plays the anti-hero Lobo in ‘Supergirl’. The film is set for release on June 26, starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, with Momoa making his DCU debut after six films as Aquaman.

Showing up to support your partner at a major premiere is perfectly reasonable. But Arjona is not just any Hollywood girlfriend; she is an actress whose own DCU future has been the subject of relentless speculation for months.

That speculation reached a fever pitch earlier this year when Variety reported that Arjona had officially landed the role of alien warrior queen Maxima in James Gunn’s Superman sequel ‘Man of Tomorrow’, beating out finalists Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten for the part.

The character, created by Roger Stern and artist George Pérez, first appeared in Action Comics in 1989 as a super-powerful alien queen from the planet Almerac who comes to Earth seeking Superman as a mate to enhance her royal bloodline. It is an enormous role, and fans had been watching Arjona’s every move in the lead-up to its announcement.

Here is where things get genuinely interesting. Despite the Maxima casting being confirmed by multiple major trades, a significant portion of the DCU fandom remains convinced that the role is a smokescreen.

The theory is that Arjona is actually set to play Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe, a piece of fan casting that James Gunn himself has spoken favorably about in the past. Some reports suggest the trades are split on whether Arjona is truly playing Maxima, or whether the announcement is simply an attempt to conceal the true identity of her character ahead of a bigger reveal.

The fire under this theory got noticeably hotter during the ‘Supergirl’ press tour. When Momoa sat down for an interview with Screen Rant’s Ash Crossan, he was asked which future DCU characters he would want to join Lobo at the bar. The actor brought up Wonder Woman unprompted, which is exactly the hero many fans believe Arjona is secretly playing in ‘Man of Tomorrow’. When the interviewer said they were rooting for Arjona, Momoa’s entire response was simply, “She’s hot.” Twice. It was not a denial. It was not a confirmation. It was precisely the kind of non-answer that keeps the rumor machine running at full capacity.

Arjona’s presence at the ‘Supergirl’ premiere also speaks to where her career is right now. Best known for her acclaimed performance in the Star Wars series ‘Andor’, her résumé also includes ‘Hit Man’, ‘Blink Twice’, and ‘Father of the Bride’, and she is set to star opposite Michael B. Jordan in an Amazon MGM remake of ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’. She is not a supporting player quietly slotting into someone else’s franchise. She is a leading woman whose visibility within the DCU ecosystem is clearly being carefully managed.

If Arjona is indeed playing Wonder Woman in ‘Man of Tomorrow’, it would make sense for DC Studios to want to control that announcement on their own terms, given how significant the reveal would be for the new DC Universe. A premiere appearance, in an unforgettable red dress, standing front and center at the biggest DCU event of the summer, is exactly the kind of subtle but unmistakable brand-building that a studio deploys when they want an actress to feel central to their universe before they have officially said so.

‘Supergirl’ hits theaters on June 26, with ‘Man of Tomorrow’ following in July 2027. Answers are coming, eventually. Until then, every red carpet appearance is a clue.
