One industry insider claimed Doctor Doom will have a wizard sidekick in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ who, like Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, uses a Sling Ring.

A separate report backed up that theory with more specifics. A widely followed scooper shared an updated pre-reshoots cast list that reportedly placed Cumberbatch in the film, with the actor supposedly playing a variant described as Doom’s wizard sidekick rather than the mainline Strange fans are used to.

Given how the multiverse has shaped recent Marvel storytelling, that idea does not feel like a stretch. Some fans have pointed out this would let Marvel bring Cumberbatch’s face back on screen without tangling up the version of Strange who is expected to matter most in ‘Secret Wars’.
