That assumption is now facing an unexpected challenge, at least according to a fresh wave of online speculation.
A rumor circulating on social media this week claims that “Avengers: Endgame” is set to disappear from Disney+’s streaming catalog starting in September, with the film reportedly not returning to the platform until early November. According to the claim, its eventual return would coincide with a rebranded version tied to the film’s ongoing theatrical comeback.
That theatrical comeback, at least, is confirmed and already well underway in terms of promotion. “Avengers: Endgame” is officially returning to theaters on September 25 under the retitled banner “Avengers: Endgame Encore,” giving fans a fresh reason to revisit the 2019 blockbuster ahead of December’s “Avengers: Doomsday.”
Whether the film’s streaming availability will actually change alongside that theatrical push remains unverified. As of publication, “Avengers: Endgame” continues to stream normally on Disney+, and no official statement from Disney or Marvel has confirmed plans to pull the film from the platform in September or reintroduce it under a new title in November.
The theatrical rerelease itself carries real substance behind it. According to Deadline, the “Endgame Encore” version will include a custom introduction, additional new footage and a special end tag exclusive to Disney’s new Infinity Vision certification program and IMAX screenings, positioning the rerelease as more than a simple nostalgia play.
Marvel confirmed the rerelease during its San Diego Comic-Con 2026 presentation, with directors Joe and Anthony Russo clarifying that “Encore” would not simply be a straight replay of the original theatrical cut. According to Fandango’s official listing, the new version runs three hours and five minutes, making it roughly four minutes longer than the 2019 original.
Russo elaborated on the reasoning behind bringing the film back to theaters during an appearance at the Sands Film Festival, describing the rerelease as a critical companion piece to December’s “Doomsday.” He called it a setup for what audiences will watch when they see “Avengers: Doomsday,” framing the theatrical return as functionally tied to the next chapter of the Multiverse Saga rather than existing purely for sentimental reasons.
The September 25 release date places “Endgame Encore” in a deliberate sweet spot within Marvel’s current release calendar, arriving in the window between “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which debuted July 31, and “Avengers: Doomsday” on December 18. That timing puts the rerelease almost exactly twelve weeks ahead of “Doomsday,” long enough to build fresh anticipation while keeping the emotional connective tissue between films intact.
The rerelease also arrives during an unusually hot stretch at the domestic box office, with “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” having already posted the biggest opening weekend in box office history earlier this summer. That momentum gives Marvel considerable leverage heading into the fall, both in terms of audience goodwill and exhibitor willingness to support Disney’s new Infinity Vision format rollout.
Given how much verified detail already surrounds the theatrical side of this story, the added claim about “Endgame” temporarily leaving Disney+ remains squarely in rumor territory for now.
