Jacob Elordi Turns a Childhood Promise Into an Oscars Moment
Jacob Elordi is having a big moment in his career, and it comes after thirteen years of hard work. The actor is now officially an Academy Award nominee, and he’s using the occasion to keep a promise he made as a teenager.
When he was just fifteen, Elordi told his mom, Melissa Elordi, that if he ever got nominated for an Oscar, she would be his date. Now, at twenty-eight, he is finally making that promise come true by walking the red carpet with her by his side.
Elordi shared the story during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “I’m going to take mom,” he said. “I promised her when I was 15 that I would take her. So, I have to honor that.”

He also credited his mother’s support for much of his success. While his father once suggested he should have a backup plan in case acting didn’t work out, Melissa never stopped believing in him.
“My mom fully believed in me the whole time,” he said. “And I remember dad did the dad thing at one point where he was like, ‘You know, you’ve got to have a plan B because this isn’t necessarily feasible.’”

Elordi revealed that it was actually his mom who told him he had been nominated. He had gone to sleep to avoid the early morning announcement. “I went to bed, and I was asleep, comfortably, and then I heard my mum’s phone ring at like 5 a.m. And then [I hear] her little feet coming up the stairs, and then her face sort of told me that I’d been nominated. It was so beautiful,” he said.
The nomination comes from his performance in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. Elordi took on the challenging role of the Creature, spending long hours in makeup and prosthetics to bring the character to life.
Elordi’s rise to fame has been fast. He first became known for The Kissing Booth trilogy and his role on HBO’s Euphoria. In recent years, he has focused on bigger films, earning praise for playing Elvis Presley in Priscilla and starring in the thriller Saltburn.
He’s also attached to several upcoming high-profile dramas, showing he’s one of Hollywood’s most in-demand young actors. Fans are also excited for the next season of Euphoria, and with all of his film and TV work, Elordi is proving he can handle many different kinds of roles.
