James Bond Producer Amy Pascal Says the Next 007 Will Bring a ‘Really Different’ Take On the Character

James Bond’s future has been one of the most closely watched mysteries in Hollywood ever since Daniel Craig hung up his tuxedo following 2021’s ‘No Time to Die.’ With Amazon MGM Studios now overseeing the franchise after acquiring full creative control from longtime stewards Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. That search has taken on new urgency in recent months, with director Denis Villeneuve and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman reportedly notifying actors about a final round of auditions taking place this August. Pascal made clear that whoever takes over won’t simply be replicating what’s come before. She explained that having previously worked with Broccoli, she understands just how difficult an act Craig is to follow, and that the new take needs to feel genuinely different, stirring, exciting, and distinct from everything audiences have seen in the role so far.

That search for something new comes amid a broader shakeup behind the scenes of the franchise. Amazon MGM Studios officially took full creative control of James Bond in February 2025, ending decades of stewardship under Broccoli and Wilson and installing Pascal and Heyman as the producers guiding its next chapter.

The creative team assembled around them reflects that shift toward reinvention, with Villeneuve, fresh off his work on the ‘Dune’ franchise, directing, and ‘Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight penning the script. Oscar-winning casting director Nina Gold has also joined the effort, signaling that the studio is treating the search for the next Bond with the same level of prestige typically reserved for major awards contenders.

Pascal’s comments arrive at a moment when speculation around the role has reached a fever pitch, with names ranging from established stars to complete unknowns being floated by fans and bettors alike. Some online reactions have pushed back against certain rumored names, arguing the choice needs genuine believability, while others have suggested the studio should consider a relatively unknown actor capable of making the role their own.

Given how much scrutiny every previous Bond casting decision has attracted across the franchise’s sixty-plus-year history, from Roger Moore to Timothy Dalton to Pierce Brosnan, Pascal’s emphasis on delivering something distinctly different suggests Amazon MGM understands the stakes of getting this particular decision right.
