James Gunn May Still Have a Chance to Cast Henry Cavill as the Most Powerful Superman in the DCU
The original DCEU was launched by Warner Bros. to create their own cinematic universe, inspired by the success of Disney’s MCU. Despite its potential, high-profile stars, and some great movies, the DCEU struggled due to a series of poor choices and missteps.
James Gunn was brought in to revamp the franchise. He decided to reboot with a new universe called DCU. The first major DCU film under this new direction will be his ‘Superman’ movie, featuring David Corenswet in the role.
This is significant because Henry Cavill, who previously played Superman, was among the big stars of the old DCEU. Many fans are eager to see Cavill return as the Man of Steel, and there remains a possibility for this if Gunn chooses to make it happen.
This article presents a theory on how James Gunn might reintroduce Henry Cavill in the DCU Superman role. While we don’t have any concrete information or rumors about this happening, it’s an intriguing possibility if Gunn decides to go that route. So, what’s the idea?
With the DCU embracing a multiverse, as seen with the upcoming Black Superman movie, there’s potential for multiple Supermen within the universe. David Corenswet will be the primary Superman, but there’s no reason other variants couldn’t appear, including Cavill.
We propose that Gunn could bring Cavill back as the most powerful version of Superman, either as Cosmic Armor Superman or Superman One Million. Cosmic Armor Superman is a god-like entity, a Thought Machine, and the most powerful iteration of Superman. This version could be integrated without being a “second Superman,” though it might pose challenges.
Alternatively, Superman One Million is a more traditional Superman who has gained immense power after spending 15,000 years in the sun. Integrating this version could be more complex, as there’s no clear reason for his sudden appearance, but he would indeed be a second Superman.
Cavill could return as either version, though how Gunn would incorporate these variants into the DCU remains a question. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below!
