James Gunn Seemingly Confirms Villain for ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’ with New Script Reveal

James Gunn has revealed an exciting update for Superman fans.

Superman director previously confirmed that the next film in the Superman saga is titled Man of Tomorrow and is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027. The film will feature David Corenswet’s Superman alongside familiar faces like Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult.

Gunn explained that the story is not a direct sequel to the Superman film but will focus on Superman in a central role. He described the project as “as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie,” promising that the pair will face a larger threat together. Filming is expected to start around April 2026.

Earlier today however, Gunn shared a photo of the second draft of the Man of Tomorrow script on social media, teasing the film’s main villain.

The script cover features an X-ray of a head with an enlarged brain, strongly hinting that Brainiac will be the antagonist for the 2027 movie. Fans are already speculating how this classic DC villain will challenge Superman in the new story.

This news comes after Gunn confirmed he had finished a script treatment for the movie and referred to it as the next chapter in the “Superman Saga.” Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav had previously confirmed Gunn would be both writing and directing the next installment in the “Super-Family.”

With Brainiac teased as the main villain, anticipation is building for how Man of Tomorrow will expand the Superman universe. It promises a mix of high stakes, iconic characters, and the classic struggle between hero and villain that fans love.
