James McAvoy has given fans a rare peek into his personal life, revealing that he and his wife, Lisa Liberati, are parents to a four-year-old son. The X-Men star told The Guardian on March 31 that the couple quietly welcomed their child in 2022, deliberately keeping the news out of the public eye.

Becoming a father again at 42 has given McAvoy a fresh perspective on parenting. He shared that this time around, he feels calmer and more collected. “I worry less. I’m a bit more philosophical,” he said.

Still, he admitted that taking care of a toddler is physically more demanding than when he had his first son, Brendon, who is now 15. “But it’s also harder, because you’re just older and tireder,” he added.

McAvoy met Liberati in 2016 while working on the psychological thriller Split. At that time, she was the personal assistant to director M. Night Shyamalan. Their relationship grew over the years, and the couple eventually tied the knot in a private ceremony in 2022. They now split their time between London and Philadelphia.

The actor has always been careful about keeping his personal life private, a habit he developed during his previous marriage to actress Anne-Marie Duff. Even after their separation, McAvoy and Duff have maintained a mutual respect and a strict policy of privacy regarding their shared past.

He explained that he prefers not to discuss his family life in public, saying this boundary has stayed the same even as his life has changed. While he keeps his home life quiet, McAvoy has been busy professionally. He is celebrating his directorial debut with California Schemin’, which is set for a wide release in the United Kingdom on April 10.

The film is a musical biographical story based on Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd, two Scottish students who tricked the music industry by pretending to be an American rap duo. McAvoy not only directed the project but also appears in a supporting role, while the lead characters are played by rising actors Samuel Bottomley and Séamus McLean Ross.

Through this glimpse into his life, McAvoy reminds fans that celebrities can still maintain boundaries while pursuing their passions. As he navigates fatherhood and filmmaking, he is clearly finding a way to keep both personal and professional life in balance.
