Jamie Lee Curtis used a charity event in Hollywood to speak openly about politics and what she sees as misplaced priorities. The comments were made on Thursday, Feb. 5, during the grand opening of Project Angel Food’s new Chuck Lorre Family Foundation Kitchen & Campus.

Curtis took the stage to help celebrate the nonprofit’s expansion, but she also shared how frustrated she feels with the current political climate. She told the crowd she is angrier than I’ve ever been, explaining that her concern centers on how vulnerable people are being treated right now.

While addressing the audience, Curtis urged people to work together and push back against leadership she believes is failing the public. She said real change only happens when people decide to stand together instead of staying quiet.

During her remarks, she singled out recent ICE enforcement actions and described them as a distraction, saying they are pulling attention away from other serious legal matters, including the Epstein files.

Her words were met with loud applause from those in attendance. The crowd had gathered to celebrate the nonprofit’s growth, which has been deeply connected to Curtis for many years.

Project Angel Food originally began by delivering meals to people living with HIV and AIDS. Today, the organization provides more than 1.5 million medically tailored meals each year to people across Los Angeles who are dealing with life-threatening illnesses.

The new campus was made possible through a $10 million donation from television producer Chuck Lorre. It also includes a volunteer center named in honor of Curtis and her husband, Christopher Guest, recognizing their long-standing support of the organization.

Away from activism, Curtis is also marking meaningful moments in her personal life. On Feb. 5, she shared on social media that she has reached 27 years of sobriety. In her post, she thanked the late Richard Lewis for helping her break free from addiction, calling that period of her life a daily prison she was lucky to escape.

Her career remains busy as well. Curtis currently stars in the James L. Brooks film Ella McKay, which recently arrived on Disney+ after a short theatrical run. Later this year, she will appear in the crime drama series Scarpetta on Amazon Prime Video, set to premiere on March 11.

In the series, Curtis plays Dorothy Farinelli, the sister of Nicole Kidman’s character, medical examiner Kay Scarpetta. The story follows the two women as they deal with a strained family bond while working through a series of intense murder investigations.

Curtis made it clear at the event that charity work and speaking out are closely linked for her. Whether people agree or disagree, she continues to use public moments to say exactly what she thinks.
