Fans of Jane Austen are getting their first glimpse at the upcoming ‘Sense and Sensibility’ adaptation, with the first official poster for the new period drama now released. The new film brings Austen’s beloved story back to the big screen with a fresh cast and a new creative team behind the camera.

The upcoming movie is based on Austen’s classic 1811 novel and is being directed by Georgia Oakley, with Diana Reid writing the screenplay. The project is being produced by Working Title Films, Focus Features, November Pictures, and Kiddo Films, bringing together a team known for creating character-driven dramas.

The first poster has now been released, giving audiences their first visual look at the new adaptation before the official trailer arrives tomorrow. The trailer is expected to offer a closer look at the characters, the romantic conflicts, and the world of the Dashwood family.

The new ‘Sense and Sensibility’ film follows the story of sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood as they deal with love, heartbreak, family struggles, and the challenges of society. Like Austen’s original novel, the movie explores the differences between emotion and reason while following the sisters as they search for happiness.

Daisy Edgar-Jones leads the cast as Elinor Dashwood, while Esmé Creed-Miles plays her younger sister Marianne. The film also stars Caitríona Balfe as Mrs. Dashwood, with Frank Dillane taking on the role of John Willoughby and George MacKay playing Edward Ferrars.

The cast also includes Herbert Nordrum as Colonel Brandon, Bodhi Rae Breathnach as Margaret Dashwood, and Fiona Shaw as Mrs. Jennings. With such a strong group of performers, the adaptation is expected to bring a new energy to Austen’s famous characters.

Production on the movie began in the United Kingdom in 2025. According to production details, Arnaud Potier served as cinematographer, while Izabella Curry handled editing. The film is being developed as a modern take on the classic story while keeping the emotional themes that made Austen’s novel popular for more than two centuries.

This will not be the first time ‘Sense and Sensibility’ has been adapted for audiences. The story has previously inspired several film and television versions, including the well-known 1995 movie starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. The new version will now attempt to introduce the story to a new generation with a different style and perspective.

Director Georgia Oakley is known for her work on character-focused stories, and this adaptation marks another major project for her. The screenplay comes from Diana Reid, who is tasked with bringing Austen’s famous dialogue and relationships into a new cinematic version.

‘Sense and Sensibility’ is scheduled to arrive in theaters in the United Kingdom on September 25, before releasing in the United States on October 16. With the first poster already creating excitement and the trailer coming tomorrow, fans will soon get a much better idea of what this new Austen adaptation has to offer.
