Jennifer Lawrence Calls Leonardo DiCaprio’s New Film ‘The Most Incredible Movie I’ve Ever Seen’

Jennifer Lawrence is full of praise for Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film, One Battle After Another, calling it “the most incredible movie I’ve ever seen in my entire life,” according to The New York Times.

She watched the film in 70mm IMAX and said the experience was “as God intended.”

This is a huge change from her reaction to Anderson’s Phantom Thread. Back in 2018, Lawrence admitted on Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast that she couldn’t get through the movie. “I got through about three minutes of it. I put in a good, solid three. Oh my god, I couldn’t. I’m sorry to anybody who loved that movie. I couldn’t give that kind of time,” she said.

At the time, she hinted that her reaction was personal, as she had recently ended a relationship with Darren Aronofsky, whom she met while filming mother! in 2017.

One Battle After Another is a 2025 American action thriller directed, written, and co-produced by Paul Thomas Anderson.

The film is inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti. The story follows an ex-revolutionary who is forced back into a dangerous life when he and his daughter are hunted by a corrupt military officer.

Anderson had long wanted to adapt Vineland, eventually blending his own stories into the book’s narrative. Filming took place in California using VistaVision, making it one of the first films since the 1960s to use the format for principal photography. With a budget between $130 million and $175 million, it is the most expensive film of Anderson’s career.

The film premiered in Los Angeles on September 8, 2025, and was released in U.S. theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures on September 26. It received widespread critical acclaim for Anderson’s direction and screenplay, its action sequences, cinematography, editing, music, and ensemble cast. DiCaprio, Penn, del Toro, Hall, Taylor, and Infiniti were singled out for praise. The film has grossed $191 million worldwide, making it Anderson’s highest-grossing movie to date.

Lawrence is also set to reunite with DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film What Happens at Night, expected to start shooting early next year.
