After officially ending her marriage to Ben Affleck in 2024, Jennifer Lopez is taking time to focus on herself and her life. In a recent interview preview on Nightline that aired on Good Morning America, the 56-year-old singer and actress shared how she spent the past year reflecting and healing.

“I had to stop everything, and I took a year off,” Lopez said. She explained that she intentionally stepped away from work and other distractions to fully sit with her emotions. “I just decided to be home and sit in what had happened without running away from it through work, through another person, through anything — just sit.”

During this period, Lopez prioritized her 18-year-old twins, Emme and Max. She reflected on the importance of understanding herself rather than blaming others. “I just got to the point where I was like, ‘What is going on with you?’ Because I couldn’t blame anybody else, because I don’t think that’s where the lesson is,” she said. “And so I really wanted to figure myself out.”

Lopez, who is currently performing her Las Vegas residency, The JLo Show at Caesars Palace, also addressed her love life. When asked if she was dating, she laughed and said she’s happy being single.

“It’s so nice right now. I’m so happy. It’s the best. I just feel really good right now,” she told anchor Juju Chang. “And that was the scary thing for me when I was younger. Like, I didn’t know if I could do that. I was always afraid to do that.”

Even while taking time for herself, Lopez remains busy professionally. Her Las Vegas show features reimagined versions of her biggest hits with a full orchestra, blending pop with Broadway influences that first inspired her love of performing.

She also continues to make moves in Hollywood. Her upcoming Netflix romantic comedy, Office Romance, starring alongside Brett Goldstein, is currently in post-production. Fans are also eagerly awaiting her next film, the psychological thriller The Last Mrs. Parrish.

Directed by Robert Zemeckis and based on the novel by Liv Constantine. Lopez plays Daphne Parrish, a role that explores darker and more complex emotional territory than her previous work.

With her twins preparing to leave for college this August, Lopez is navigating both professional ambition and the bittersweet milestone of becoming an empty-nester. Even amid all of this, she says she feels lighter, happier, and more content than she has in decades.
