Jensen Ackles Ready to Take on the Most Coveted Role in the DCU: “Anybody Who Gets to Wear the Cowl, They Got Something”
Jensen Ackles has made it clear that he’s interested in playing Batman if the chance ever comes his way. In a recent interview with Collider’s Tania Hussain, Ackles said he would be excited to take on the role, but also admitted it would be a big challenge.
He said, “I would probably have to lean heavily on Gunn and whoever’s directing and whoever’s writing it, and get inspiration from the text. But look, you talk about not wanting to fumble the football, that’s one that I would be nervous as hell to carry, but also proud, and a certain feather in the cap. Anybody who gets to wear the cowl, they got something.”
Ackles is no stranger to the Batman character. He has voiced Batman in several animated DC movies, including the popular Batman: The Long Halloween. Fans and critics have praised his performance for adding depth and emotion, especially in scenes with Catwoman.
He also played Jason Todd, the Red Hood, in Batman: Under the Red Hood, a well-loved animated film known for its strong story and powerful voice acting.
His experience shows he understands the complexity of Gotham’s heroes. On top of voice work, Ackles has proven he can handle tough, serious roles in live-action projects like Supernatural and the crime thriller Countdown.
Still, Ackles isn’t the only actor interested in playing the Dark Knight. Alan Ritchson, known for his role in Reacher, has also openly said he wants the part. He told fans, “I would love to play Batman. There I said it okay. I’ll shout it from the rooftops: I wanna be Bruce Wayne.” Ritchson pointed out Batman’s intelligence as the hero’s real power, saying, “Dude is the smartest superhero there is. Like, he’s inventive and he’s got all the gadgets, but he’s super-smart.”
With James Gunn and Peter Safran looking for the perfect actor for their new DC Universe reboot called “Gods and Monsters,” fans are eager to see who will become the next Batman. Both Ackles and Ritchson bring different strengths to the role, so the choice will be interesting.
From my view, Jensen Ackles would be a great Batman. He already understands the character’s struggles and emotions from his voice work and has the right mix of toughness and heart.
