Jensen Ackles Says He’s Not Happy With ‘The Boys’ Finale Ending – Here’s Why
Jensen Ackles recently opened up about his feelings on the ending of The Boys after the show wrapped its fifth season.
Ackles plays Soldier Boy in the show, one of the most important characters connected to Homelander’s story. While talking about the finale, he made it clear that his issue was not with how the story was written, but with the fact that the show is ending at all.
“No because it’s ending, i want more. I want seasons 6, 7 and 8,” Ackles said. “Your talking to a guy that did 15 seasons of a show so i’m like ‘really 5 that’s it that’s all we’re getting, come on we can do more than that’”
His comments were shared in an interview reported by THR. The actor compared the short run of The Boys to his long experience on Supernatural, where he spent many years playing Dean Winchester. That long history with TV shows made him feel like five seasons was too short.
Even though Ackles wants more seasons, the show’s story has already reached a natural stopping point. The season 5 finale focused on wrapping up major conflicts and closing the arcs of key characters. Still, his character Soldier Boy was left in a strange place at the end of the season.
Soldier Boy does not appear in the final episode of the season. Instead, the story leaves his fate unclear. Earlier episodes show that he had a tense relationship with Homelander, including a moment where Homelander stops him and puts him back into a frozen state. After that, the show does not confirm where he ends up. This has led fans to question what really happened to him.
Soldier Boy walks away from Homelander in the penultimate episode. Homelander then turns on him, choking him and leaving him unconscious. After that, he is placed back into containment. By the time the final episode happens, he is not seen again, and his fate is left open.

Fans have been talking a lot about this choice online. Some viewers like that Soldier Boy’s ending is not fully explained because it leaves room for imagination. Others feel frustrated and say they wanted a clearer conclusion for such an important character.
