The Boys creator Eric Kripke recently spoke about how he thinks people will react to the show’s final season. He said he is not expecting a single clear reaction from fans and believes the ending will divide opinion.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kripke said he understands that not everyone will like how the story ends. He explained that online reactions can be intense, but he has learned to accept it over time.

“Look I want everyone to love it, it’s not fun to go online and have like a thousand comments in a row saying ‘you suck!’ But I’ve sort of made peace with it, it’s going to be polarizing like everything else,” Kripke said.

He also talked about advice he got from another showrunner, which changed how he thinks about his job.

“Your job is to get an emotional reaction out of people, not exactly what that reactions is,” he said. “So, if people love it, if people hate it as long as they are feeling an emotion then I’ve done my job.”

The comments come as the final episode of The Boys shows a split between critics and fans. According to review scores reported around the release, critics have responded very positively, with a 97% Tomatometer score based on dozens of reviews. But the audience score is much lower at around 59%, showing a clear gap between critics and viewers.

Fans have also been very vocal online. Many viewers say they are disappointed with the pacing of the final season and how the story wrapped up. Some complaints focus on slow episodes and what they see as “filler” content. Others say key characters were not used well, and that the final episodes felt rushed after years of buildup.

At the same time, not all fan reactions are negative. Some viewers have said they still enjoyed the ending and felt it gave the characters a fitting conclusion. A few fans also praised the emotional moments and said the show stayed true to its style even in the final stretch.

Kripke’s comments show he expected this kind of mixed reaction. He made it clear that his focus was never on pleasing everyone, but on making sure the audience felt something strong by the end of the story.
