Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye is one of the fan-favorite characters in the MCU his last live-action appearance was in ‘Hawkeye’ show although he did recently take on the role of a voice actor in ‘What If…?’ Season 2 Episode ‘What If…Happy Hogan Saved Christmas.’ Jeremy clearly recovered enough to appear in the animated MCU but the question of his physical health has been under question for close to a year now.

On January 1, 2023, he was hospitalized following a severe accident at home involving his snowplow, resulting in blunt chest trauma and 30 broken bones. The snowplow, weighing 14,330 pounds, ran over him. He was airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center, underwent surgery, and remained in critical condition in the intensive care unit. On January 17, he was discharged and returned home. Ten weeks later, he started walking with a cane, and doctors attributed his survival to his health and fitness.

As you can see no matter how talented of an actor Jeremy is, his health might bar him from taking further superheroic rules in the MCU, but according to Jeremy himself that might not be the case. In his most recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jeremy shed some light on whether we can expect to see him as Hawkeye again and whether he already received the call from the higher-ups.

I’m gonna be strong enough, that’s for sure. I’ll be ready.

He also commented on the magnitude of support he received from his MCU co-stars and how they’ve been the most powerful source of healing during the last “harrowing” 13 months.

All those guys come to my bedside. They’ve been with me all along through this recovery, so… if they want me, they could have me. It would be something.

Renner also confirmed that he is still not in the clear and that his recovery will last until the end of his life.

I’ll do whatever I can… whatever it takes to get better, to get stronger. It’s a one-way street, this recovery. The rest of my life is about health and wellness. Recovery will be part of the rest of my life, so I look forward to it, man. There’s always something to do to get better, be stronger, be happier, be healthier, and that’s what I look forward to.

MCU has dozens of projects either in development or rumored to be in development and even though none of the projects feature Hawkeye in a standalone role, there is plenty of space for him to return in projects such as ‘Avengers 5,’ ‘Avengers Secret Wars’ and ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’ Considering the role of Kate Bishop in the upcoming ‘Young Avengers’ we can see Hawkeye in the role of a mentor once again. In any case, we’re hoping he gets that call and that he is truly ready.
