Jeremy Renner Teases Hawkeye’s MCU Return With Mysterious Instagram Story

Jeremy Renner has spent the better part of a decade keeping fans guessing about where Clint Barton fits into the next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Between cryptic social media posts and carefully worded interview answers, the actor has built a reputation for teasing his archer alter ego without ever fully confirming anything.

That pattern continued this week, and it comes at a moment when Marvel’s Phase 6 plans are dominating headlines. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ barreling toward its December release and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ looming after it, every hint from a returning MCU star tends to send fans into speculation overdrive.

Renner just gave them plenty to work with. The actor posted a new Instagram story showing a close-up shot of his iconic Marvel costume, captioned “Added to END GAME PRESS,” reigniting talk that Hawkeye could be circling back into the Avengers fold.

The timing is notable because the post comes shortly after Kevin Feige officially confirmed that Renner will reprise Clint Barton for Avengers Infinity Defense, one of two new attractions joining Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure. The ride was announced during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23 2026 and is set to open in 2028, sending guests through Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City in a battle against King Thanos.

Renner won’t be alone in the attraction, either. He’s joined by fellow MCU veterans Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, with Iman Vellani appearing as Ms. Marvel to greet guests before the ride begins.

Despite the excitement, Renner’s confirmed return for the theme park attraction doesn’t change his status on the big screen. He’s not currently part of the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ cast list, and the actor said back in October 2025 that he wasn’t set to appear in either ‘Doomsday’ or ‘Secret Wars.’

That said, MCU stars have a well-documented history of misdirection when it comes to protecting spoilers. Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire famously denied any involvement in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ right up until the film’s release, only to show up in some of its biggest moments.

That precedent is exactly why a single cryptic Instagram story from Renner is enough to get the rumor mill spinning again. Nothing about the post confirms an appearance in either upcoming Avengers film, but it’s also the kind of ambiguous, on-brand teasing that Renner has leaned into for years whenever his Marvel future comes up.

Renner has never been shy about admitting he’d jump at the chance to suit back up if Marvel came calling, whether that means another film appearance or a proper second season of his solo series. Fans have picked up on that enthusiasm for years, treating even his smallest social media gestures, from reposted trailers to captioned selfies, as potential clues about what’s coming next for Clint Barton.

Hawkeye has largely sat on the sidelines of the Multiverse Saga, appearing only in his own Disney+ series and a handful of episodes of ‘What If…?’ since debuting all the way back in 2011’s ‘Thor.’ Given how tightly his story is woven into characters like Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova, many fans see an eventual return as inevitable rather than optional.

For now, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is confirmed to feature returning stars including Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, and Patrick Stewart, among others. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hits theaters on December 18, 2026, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ following on December 17, 2027.

Whether Renner’s latest tease amounts to anything concrete remains to be seen, but it’s clear the actor isn’t done stoking the flames just yet.

What do you think Jeremy Renner's cryptic Instagram post means for Hawkeye's MCU future?
