Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst Shine as a Power Couple at the Actor Awards
Jesse Plemons had a lot on his mind at the 32nd Annual Actor Awards on Sunday, March 1. While walking the red carpet at the Shrine Auditorium, the actor spoke honestly about how intense his latest role has been. Plemons is nominated for Best Actor for his performance in Bugonia, and he admitted it was the hardest role he has ever taken on.
In interviews on the red carpet, Plemons explained that his character, Teddy Gatz, is driven by fear and obsession. Teddy believes he is saving the planet from an alien invasion, even as his actions become more extreme and dangerous.
“The first time I read the script, I really laughed a lot out loud,” Plemons said. But after reading it again months later, the tone felt very different. “I knew what a challenge it was going to be to bring him to life,” he added, saying it was important to find the humanity in someone fueled by paranoia.

By his side at the ceremony was his wife, Kirsten Dunst, who has been supporting him throughout the awards season. The couple once again stood out on the red carpet. Plemons wore a chocolate-colored Lardini tuxedo, while Dunst chose a sleek black Khaite dress finished with an oversized bow.
In a past interview with Town & Country, Dunst joked about how often they end up coordinating outfits without planning it. “We unconsciously do this a lot,” she said, adding that one of them will change if the looks feel too similar.
The film behind Plemons’ nomination, Bugonia, is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and is a remake of the South Korean cult movie Save the Green Planet! The story follows Teddy and his cousin Don, played by Aidan Delbis, as they kidnap a powerful pharmaceutical CEO they believe is an alien queen.
Emma Stone stars as the executive, Michelle Fuller, and she has also been receiving major awards attention for the role. Plemons has been everywhere lately. He recently appeared in the Netflix limited series Zero Day alongside Robert De Niro and is now finishing work on two major films.
One is Sunrise on the Reaping, a new Hunger Games prequel where he plays a younger version of Plutarch Heavensbee. The film is set for release on November 20. He also stars in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s upcoming black comedy Digger, which features Tom Cruise and is scheduled for an IMAX release on October 2.
From his early days growing up in Texas to standout roles on Friday Night Lights and Breaking Bad, Plemons has built a career around challenging characters. Now an Academy Award nominee and a Cannes Best Actor winner, he says it’s the difficulty of roles like Teddy Gatz that keeps him excited about acting.
