Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker Looks Better Each Time We See Him

Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker is coming. Over the course of two weeks, director Todd Phillips has released not one but two posts detailing his Joker. While they are a dramatic departure from the versions we’ve seen in years past, they look great.

Just about a week ago, a video was released showing Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. The video showed him transitioning from an unpainted civilian into the Clown Prince of Crime. With it, the internet blew up.

The look is creepy, frightening, and an impressive take on the character. The Joker, as iconic as he is/has been, fell out of favor the last time we saw him on the big screen. Not to take anything away from Jared Leto, the look felt off. The looks drew heavy criticism from fans and non fans alike. Even Suicide Squad director, David Ayer, said the “damaged” tattoo across the forehead was a little much.

Then, in an effort to beat leaked photos, Todd Phillips gave the world this beauty.

Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker

Just a circus clown…?

This Joker, unlike the creepy transitioning Joker, plays a little more to the circus that clowns are known for. Unfortunately, the details of the photo aren’t known. However, it can be assumed that the movie plans to show that the Joker is a man of many faces and identities. Think about the way Heath Ledger used a clown mask to hide himselfin the beginning of The Dark Knight.

I’ll be the first to admit that when I heard Joaquin Phoenix was set to play the Joker, I was a little apprehensive. My apprehension is fading fast as more and more photos become available.

The Joker is set to be released in October of 2019. The movie will mark the first attempt at giving a backstory to the character. If the costumes and photos are any indication, we are in for a much-needed treat.

Cheers,
