Johnny Depp has had a long love affair with rum, from his adventures in the Pirates of the Caribbean films to starring in The Rum Diary. Now, he’s taking that passion into the real world with a brand new high-end rum called Three Hearts Rum, made alongside his longtime friend Bobby DeLeon.

This isn’t just another celebrity label. Depp and DeLeon spent years developing the spirit, wanting to create something that truly reflects their personal history and respects the traditions of Caribbean rum-making. Depp has been connected to the islands for decades, spending much of his time at his private home in the Bahamas, Little Hall’s Pond Cay.

The bottle itself is a work of art. It’s covered in symbols inspired by Depp’s own tattoos. There’s a skull to remind people to live life fully, a lightning bolt symbolizing friendship, and three hearts that honor the most important people in his life. At the bottom of the bottle, the brand’s motto reads, “No Fear. No Malice. No Envy.”

Depp explained the thought behind the project, saying, “Rum holds the history of the islands. It’s shaped by the hands of the people who grow the cane, ferment the spirit, and age it over time. Bobby and I wanted to create something that honored that tradition and the friendships that inspired it.”

DeLeon added that their goal was authenticity over speed, making sure every step of the process respected the craft. The rum itself is a seven-year-aged blend from the Dominican Republic.

It spent five years in bourbon barrels before moving to cognac casks for two more years. The result is a rich, layered flavor with notes of wood, spices, and vanilla. This “First Edition” release is just the start, with plans to support rum-making communities throughout the Caribbean.

Beyond his rum venture, Depp is staying busy with acting. He’s filming Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, a darker, supernatural version of the classic story, directed by Ti West. He plays a haunting version of Ebenezer Scrooge, with Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past. The movie is set to hit theaters on November 13, making it a major holiday release.

Depp is also working on Day Drinker, a thriller directed by Marc Webb, where he plays a cruise ship bartender caught up with a mysterious passenger. And behind the camera, he recently released Modì, a biopic about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.

With rum, acting, and directing all happening at once, Depp is in one of the busiest phases of his career. For him, it seems every new project, whether on screen or in a bottle, is an opportunity to honor creativity, friendship, and the stories that have shaped his life.
