Katherine Heigl made a rare public appearance on March 8 at the Wine, Women & Shoes charity event at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. It was her first red-carpet outing in over two years, and the 47-year-old actress arrived looking radiant in a colorful, patterned dress.

She paired it with royal blue heels and a bright yellow Chanel bag, catching the eyes of everyone at the event. Heigl attended the charity gala with her mother, Nancy, and spent time meeting guests, including dog expert Cesar Millan.

She spoke about her passion for animal welfare, particularly the mission of Big Dog Ranch Rescue. “Our biggest goal right now really is to diminish the number of unwanted litters coming into this country, which is what is overcrowding our shelters,” she explained.

“It’s not the shelter’s fault, and it’s not the fault of the shelter’s workers. It’s that our country is overrun with puppy-mill breeders.” Since stepping back from Hollywood, Heigl has focused on family life at her Utah ranch, where she raises her three children: Naleigh, 17, Adalaide, 13, and Joshua, 9.

She has openly discussed the challenges of balancing a busy acting career with motherhood. About her early struggles with her eldest daughter, she recalled in a past interview, “I never saw that baby.

I was always afraid that I had missed that opportunity to really bond with her and that she didn’t love me—in that moment.” Moving to Utah allowed her to slow down and prioritize her family. “I could kind of decompress and let that hustle part of me go—a little bit,” she said.

In addition to family life, Heigl has turned her attention to entrepreneurship. She founded Badlands Ranch, a premium pet food and supplement brand inspired by her life on the ranch. Since its launch in 2022, the company has thrived, giving her the opportunity to support animal rescue initiatives while remaining close to home.

Though she has stepped back from acting, Heigl has not ruled out returning to the screen. She has hinted at the possibility of a sequel to her 2008 hit, 27 Dresses, but says she is being careful about timing.

“I think that we’re in talks about a 27 Dresses sequel, which, if done right and with that cast I love so much, would definitely be something I’d be willing to sort of compromise the mom time to do,”
