Kevin Feige Confirms ‘Spider-Man 5’ Is Happening, but There’s One Major Catch

The dust has barely settled from one of the biggest box office weekends in cinema history, and already the question on every Marvel fan’s mind is the same one it always is: what comes next? For a franchise that has spent a decade turning Peter Parker into a global phenomenon, that question carries even more weight this time around.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ didn’t just perform well when it hit theaters. The film now holds the record for the biggest opening weekend for a theatrical film ever, surpassing 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’. That kind of milestone tends to spark immediate speculation about sequels, spinoffs, and where the story goes from here.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed exactly that in a new interview with Variety, confirming that a follow-up is indeed in the cards, though not anytime soon. “There are always plans,” Feige told Variety, before adding that Tom Holland is going to rest after his global promotional tour. “He and Zendaya are going to take a good and restful victory lap, which they very much deserve,” Feige said.

It’s a well-earned pause for two stars who have barely had a moment to themselves in recent months. Holland and Zendaya have traveled the world promoting both ‘Brand New Day’ and their other collaboration, Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, which was released in July. The pair has been the beating heart of the Spider-Man franchise since Holland first swung onto the scene in 2017’s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.

Feige also opened up about the emotional weight of watching the film’s success unfold in real time. “It’s overwhelming, frankly, to find ourselves in this position on a Monday morning,” Feige said. “In the very best way.” The Marvel chief noted the moment felt especially meaningful given the industry’s rocky road back from the pandemic era, when box office numbers for years struggled to recover.

While Feige played coy about timing, his boss over at Sony sounded far more definitive about the franchise’s future. According to reporting from Movieweb, Sony CEO Tom Rothman gave Variety a clear-cut “Yes” when asked directly whether a ‘Spider-Man 5’ would happen. That leaves fans with plenty of reason for optimism, even if the exact release window remains a mystery for now.

‘Brand New Day’ picks up the story years after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, following Peter Parker as he navigates life without his closest allies after erasing his identity from the world’s memory. The film brought Jon Bernthal and Sadie Sink into the fold alongside returning favorites, and reportedly sets up threads that could carry into future Marvel installments.

For now, though, the focus is on rest rather than rushing into the next chapter. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ looming on the horizon later this year and plenty of Multiverse Saga business still to wrap up, Marvel appears content to let its two biggest stars enjoy a moment of well-deserved downtime before diving back into the web-slinging action.
