Kevin Feige Confirms When ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Takes Place — And It Changes Everything

Marvel fans have spent the better part of this year trying to map out exactly how ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ fits into the sprawling road leading up to ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ With Phase Six barreling toward its biggest crossover yet, every new casting rumor and release date shuffle has sent the fan theory machine into overdrive.

That uncertainty only grew once Marvel Studios moved ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ to release after ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ instead of before it, a scheduling flip that left plenty of room for speculation about how the two stories actually connect. Some assumed Peter Parker’s next solo outing would simply exist in its own bubble, disconnected from the coming Avengers showdown.

Now Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has put that guessing game to rest. Speaking with Collider alongside producer Amy Pascal, Feige confirmed that ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is set before ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ When pressed on whether the film unfolds immediately ahead of the Avengers movie, Feige offered no additional clarity, replying only, “No, it’s before.”

That short but pointed answer, delivered to Collider’s Steve Weintraub, rules out one of the more popular theories floating around online, the idea that Peter’s story would pick up in the aftermath of Doctor Doom’s arrival. Instead, whatever Spider-Man faces in his new movie will already be resolved, at least from a timeline standpoint, by the time the Avengers assemble against their newest threat.

Producer Amy Pascal added some texture to that placement, too. She offered a more precise timeline detail, noting that the film takes place four years after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ That gap gives Peter plenty of room to grow into the fully independent hero the marketing has been teasing, without the shadow of Doctor Doom hanging over every scene.

Placing ‘Brand New Day’ ahead of ‘Doomsday’ on the timeline raises an obvious question, whether Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could actually show up in the Avengers film itself. Spider-Man remains one of Marvel’s most valuable characters across every medium, yet his name was noticeably absent when the studio revealed the sprawling Doomsday cast list.

The sequencing also reinforces just how central ‘Brand New Day’ has become to Marvel’s broader Phase Six puzzle. The film arrives only months ahead of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ with both projects expected to build toward the larger multiverse-spanning events of ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ Feige has already teased at least one overlapping character between the two films, with Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner confirmed to appear in ‘Brand New Day’ before returning for ‘Doomsday.’

There has also been mounting speculation that Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova could bridge the two movies as well, especially after Feige hinted fans might catch her sooner than expected. Combine that with reports that ‘Brand New Day’ will carry a single, tightly focused post-credits scene built specifically to set up ‘Doomsday,’ and it’s clear Marvel is treating Peter’s story as a direct on-ramp into its next mega event rather than a detour from it.

For a franchise built on interconnected storytelling, nailing down exactly where each film sits on the timeline matters more than ever heading into a crossover this large. Feige’s confirmation gives fans their clearest picture yet of how Sony and Marvel are threading Peter Parker’s next chapter into the road toward Doctor Doom.

With ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ arriving July 31 and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ following on December 18, the wait to see exactly how these two stories intersect is almost over.
