Kevin Feige Just Gave the Most Kevin Feige Answer Possible About a Spider-Man and Venom Crossover

Few unrealized team-ups in superhero cinema have generated quite as much sustained fan speculation as the possibility of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man finally facing off against Tom Hardy’s Venom. Ever since Sony and Marvel first flirted with the idea years ago, fans have been left parsing every vague comment from studio executives for any sign that the crossover might actually happen.

That speculation reached a new peak this week as press coverage for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ continues rolling out. With Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige making the rounds promoting Holland’s latest solo outing, reporters have naturally circled back to one of the fandom’s most persistent lingering questions.

Speaking with Josh Horowitz, Feige was directly asked whether he and the studio still held out hope that Hardy’s Venom and Holland’s Spider-Man might eventually share the screen in a future MCU film. His answer, delivered with his usual mix of optimism and evasiveness, was simply that they always have hope, according to reporting from ScreenRant.

Producer Amy Pascal, joining Feige for the same conversation, offered a slightly more enthusiastic take on the matchup, saying it would be great to finally see the two characters together on the big screen. Her comments suggest the appetite for this crossover extends well beyond just the fanbase, with the people actually overseeing these franchises openly acknowledging the appeal.

This isn’t the first time Feige has danced around the subject without offering anything concrete. The two characters have technically crossed paths once before, back in 2021’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ when Hardy’s Eddie Brock briefly appeared in the MCU timeline only to be swiftly pulled back into Sony’s own Spider-Man Universe before any real interaction with Holland’s Peter Parker could happen.

That brief cameo did leave one small trace behind, with a portion of the Venom symbiote reportedly remaining in the MCU after Brock’s exit. Whether that dangling plot thread ever gets picked up remains one of the more tantalizing mysteries left unresolved since ‘No Way Home’ first hit theaters.

Notably, Hardy’s Venom is nowhere to be found in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ despite the film boasting a stacked roster of other Marvel characters, including Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. The last confirmed appearance of Hardy’s version of the character came in 2024’s ‘Venom: The Last Dance,’ which closed out Sony’s live-action trilogy.

That absence hasn’t stopped Sony from continuing to develop the character in other ways. During the same conversation, Pascal also confirmed that an animated Venom film is currently in the works at Sony, though she didn’t reveal whether Hardy would return to voice Eddie Brock for that project.

Given how many times Feige has offered similarly noncommittal comments about this crossover over the years, without providing any real timeline, fans have learned not to read too deeply into these kinds of remarks. Still, the fact that both Feige and Pascal continue to publicly entertain the question suggests the door hasn’t been fully closed, even if it’s nowhere near being pushed open either.

For now, the Spider-Man and Venom showdown remains firmly in the realm of hopeful speculation rather than confirmed development. With ‘Brand New Day’ now in theaters and Sony’s animated Venom project still taking shape, this particular fan-favorite crossover appears destined to stay unresolved for at least a while longer.
