Kid Rock Fires Back at Lip-Sync Rumors After Controversial Super Bowl Halftime Performance
Kid Rock is speaking out after online rumors claimed he lip-synced during Turning Point USA’s alternative Super Bowl halftime show. The rapper addressed the situation during a Feb. 9 interview on Fox News with Laura Ingraham, where he said the issue was caused by technical problems, not lip-syncing.
The performance, which was pre-taped, became a topic of debate on social media when viewers noticed his vocals did not appear to match the music during “Bawitdaba.” Kid Rock said he noticed the problem too when he watched the playback. “It would have been super easy to sync it up if [the vocals were] pre-recorded,” he said.
He praised the production team and added, “It was very difficult for the Turning Point production crew — who, by the way, I can’t say enough good things about — but this was very difficult for them.”
He explained that he was actively performing during the recording and moving around the stage the whole time. “I’m jumping around stage like a rabid monkey, rapping my song and I’m taking breaths and my DJ is filling in the other parts of it. I even told them when I saw the rough cut, I was like, ‘You guys gotta work on that sync. It’s off.’ So it was just a syncing issue that they had, and I know they tried to get it right. It was very difficult.”
The alternative halftime show was organized by Turning Point USA and streamed online. The live broadcast reached about 6 million viewers, and the video later gained over 21 million views on YouTube. The event was created as a conservative option during the Super Bowl, which featured Bad Bunny as the official halftime performer.
Kid Rock also shared his reaction to Bad Bunny’s show. “Like most people, I didn’t understand any of it,” he said, referring to the Spanish-language performance. “I saw there’s a lot of dancers. He said he wanted to have a dance party and it looks like he had one.”
He added that the music was “not [his] cup of tea,” and said, “I don’t fault him for doing the Super Bowl, getting in front of a global audience. I fault the NFL for putting him in that position and Turning Point for having to come out and have an alternative for people to watch. You know, it’s just — poor kid.”
Turning Point USA first announced plans for the alternative show months earlier, saying the event would highlight “faith, family and freedom” and feature English-language music. The group promoted it as a rival broadcast to the official halftime performance.
Technical issues happen often in big performances, especially with pre-recorded shows. It is easy for viewers to assume lip-syncing when something looks off. Do you think the criticism was fair, or was this just a technical mistake? Share your thoughts in the comments.
