Krystal Versace Turns Into ‘Gremlins 2’ Bride Greta for Halloween and the Look Is Wickedly Good
Halloween has a way of turning drag artists into full-blown creature features, and the best looks tend to lean into pure theatrical excess. Few characters fit that spirit better than the glamorous gremlin who stole the final stretch of a cult sequel. This year, Krystal Versace has taken on that role in a way that has people talking.
The ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’ winner has a long record of turning movie characters into polished spectacle. Her past Halloween appearances have included a glossy, whip-cracking take on Catwoman from ‘Batman Returns’, complete with lip-synced dialogue, according to coverage of a Manila event. Fans have come to expect a faithful, high-camp tribute whenever she picks a film.

This time, Krystal Versace has gone for Greta, the female gremlin from ‘Gremlins 2: The New Batch’. The photos show her in the character’s bridal look, with a prosthetic creature face, pointed ears and a mane of curly blonde hair. A white lace veil, a pearl-trimmed headpiece and a bouquet of red, orange and white flowers complete the picture.
The setting is just as deliberate. One shot has her posed full-length against a pink curtain backdrop with low fog swirling around the hem of the dress. Another goes in tight on the sculpted face, where the ruffled lace collar and the thick curls do much of the storytelling.
Greta was spawned as part of the “new batch” in the 1990 sequel, and she is the only female gremlin among the monsters. Fans have also called her the Girl Gremlin and the Lady Gremlin, based on the film’s audio commentary and its trading cards. Reports on the character say the filmmakers drew on glamorous divas of the 80s when designing her.
Her bridal moment comes at the end of the movie, when she appears in a wedding gown. NECA later turned that exact moment into a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive figure, showing her in a fabric gown and veil with a bouquet, heading straight for her unsuspecting groom. Krystal’s look follows that image closely, down to the flowers.
Krystal is far from the first star to claim the role. An A.V. Club piece from last Halloween noted that the Lady Gremlin has picked up the unofficial name Greta over the years, and that fans were convinced Heidi Klum would choose her. Klum went with Medusa instead, but the same article pointed to Megan Thee Stallion’s earlier Greta costume and to Jade Thirlwall’s version, which paired Greta with Gizmo as a groom.
Mexican singer Belinda also dressed as Greta for her annual Halloween party last year. Her take used green scales, bold lips and dramatic lashes, and she framed the character as pure contained energy rather than darkness. Taken together, these looks suggest Greta has quietly become one of the go-to celebrity costumes for anyone who wants glamour and chaos in the same outfit.
There is a reason the wedding look is the one that keeps getting recreated. It combines a recognizable silhouette with a joke that works instantly, because a monster in a bridal gown is both elegant and slightly alarming. For a performer known for polish, it also offers plenty of room to show off craft.
The character’s unusual place in ‘Gremlins’ lore helps too. Greta is described as the sole surviving gremlin by the end of the film, and her fate is never spelled out. That open ending makes her a fun figure to revisit, and each new costume feels like a small sequel to a story that never finished.
Krystal was crowned on ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’ at age 20, making her the youngest winner across all franchises. She has since built a reputation as one of the most glamorous names to come out of the series. A character who is equal parts diva, bride and monster feels like a natural match for that persona.
The look also shows how far Halloween drag has moved beyond simple costumes. Prosthetics, wigs, styling and staging all need to work together, and this one clearly had a team behind it. It reads less like a quick party outfit and more like a full editorial shoot.
For now, the photos are the main thing available, and fans are likely to keep sharing them as Halloween season winds down. Whether Greta will keep topping celebrity costume lists next year remains to be seen. The early signs suggest she isn’t going anywhere.
