Not even a year ago, we all thought DCEU would continue with Henry Cavill’s Superman when he appeared in the post-credit scene of ‘Black Adam.’ However, the hierarchy at DC Studios changed when James Gunn and Peter Safran were hired as new CEOs of DC Studios, and their main task was to plan a new cinematic universe that would replace DCEU after WBD decided to pull the plug on the cinematic universe that couldn’t find the right course since 2017’s ‘Justice League’ flopped both critically and commercially.

After he finished his work on Marvel Studios’ ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ with the third installment, which received positive reviews and is deemed one of the best MCU movies in the franchise’s post-Endgame era, James Gunn immediately started developing his next project. ‘Superman: Legacy’ will be the newest reboot of the Superman movie series and the first DCU movie! Since the movie was first announced last February, there have been a couple of actors who were shortlisted for main roles, but now we finally know for sure!

We finally have a new Superman and Lois!

The news we’ve been waiting for for the last couple of months is finally here! We finally know who will be the next live-action Superman and Lois in James Gunn’s next movie. As Deadline reported, David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will lead the first DCU movie, and James Gunn confirmed the news soon after the report surfaced!

David Corenswet is a 29-year-old actor who began his career by guest starring in TV shows such as ‘Elementary’ and ‘House of Cards.’ He starred in Netflix shows ‘The Politician’ and ‘Hollywood,’ which were both created by Ryan Murphy.

Rachel Brosnahan is best known for playing an aspiring stand-up comedian Miriam “Midge” Maisel, in ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,’ which aired for five seasons on Amazon Prime Video between 2017 and 2023. The series concluded its final season last month. Brosnahan won the Primetime Emmy Award for the role in 2018 and was nominated thrice in 2018, 2020, and 2022.

‘Superman: Legacy’ is a movie that will mean a lot for both fans and the studio. The ending of DCEU isn’t going smoothly since the last three DCEU movies have all flopped commercially, and two DCEU movies are left to be released. ‘Superman: Legacy’ is expected to start a new cinematic universe and a new era of DC movies in general.

Apart from it, there are four more movies and five TV shows in development for the upcoming cinematic universe, and a good start with this movie will be crucial for the future of Gunn’s DC vision.

‘Superman: Legacy’ will start production in January 2024. Written and directed by James Gunn, the movie is set to be released on July 11, 2025!
