‘Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic’ (KOTOR) is a role-playing video game developed by BioWare and published by LucasArts. It was released in 2003, and since then, it’s been lauded as one of the best Star Wars games.

The game is set around 4,000 years before the rise of the Galactic Empire, exploring the earlier years of the ancient Galactic Republic following the events of the “Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi” comics. The game’s backstory revolves around the Mandalorian Wars, a pan-galactic conflict initiated by the Mandalorian warrior society invading the Republic. Despite Jedi reluctance, two renegade Jedi Knights, Revan, and Malak, led a Republic force to war against the Mandalorians.

The game received universal acclaim. It won numerous awards, including Game Developers Choice Awards’ 2004 Game of the Year and BAFTA Games Awards’ Best Xbox Game of the Year. GameSpot named it the Best Xbox Game of July 2003 and Best Computer Game of November 2003, and fans have been begging for a reboot or live-action adaptation for a long time now.

So, where does Leslye Headland the director of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ come into the mix? Well speaking with Omelete recently, Headland expressed her desire to bring KOTOR to live-action, she also expressed a particular interest in Kreia, a major character from KOTOR 2.

I’ve always wanted to explore a live-action version of the Knights of the Old Republic game and Kreia’s character. […]I think it would be a really interesting story to bring to life.

Headland would perhaps be a good choice for the adaptation. She knows her source material and already has experience with uncharted territory as far as unexplored Star Wars eras. ‘The Acolyte’ received somewhat mixed reviews, being praised by the critics with a lukewarm reception by the fans judging by the review aggregator sites. The show also had a massive premiere, being the most-watched Disney+ original show premiere this year.

Headland’s statement is interesting since several weeks ago rumors were going around that ‘Knights of the Old Republic’ live-action show is being developed for Disney+.
