Lisa Kudrow (62) on Quitting Botox and Why Aging Scares Her
Lisa Kudrow is opening up about her experience with cosmetic treatments and why she’s stepping away from Botox. At 62, the actress told The Hollywood Reporter that a recent session caused unexpected problems.
“I think it contributed to my eye irritation and this weird pattern on my forehead, so I’m probably done with it now anyway,” she said. Kudrow only started using Botox two years ago, so it was a relatively new experience for her.
Even though she’s stopping the treatments, Kudrow admits she has mixed feelings about aging naturally. “I am scared of having to see myself looking like my grandmother one day, but I’m excited to play older roles,” she explained.
Kudrow has been open about changing her appearance before. As a teenager, she had a rhinoplasty and told The Saturday Evening Post, “I went from, in my mind, hideous, to not hideous.”
Besides her personal life, Kudrow is also wrapping up one of her most famous projects. She confirmed that the third season of her HBO series The Comeback will be the last. She wants fans to know that this season is the finale.
“We need to say ‘third and final,’… I don’t know if I’ll want to do it again in 10 years, so let’s be done,” she said. She believes finishing the story now is the right choice for the fans and for her character. “The most respectful thing we can do for the audience and for the character is make it a three-part story. It’s a trilogy, and this is the end,” Kudrow added.
The Comeback came back after a twelve-year break. Kudrow plays Valerie Cherish again, joined by Dan Bucatinsky, Laura Silverman, and Damian Young. The new season follows Valerie in a Hollywood changed by artificial intelligence.
Kudrow said she still loves playing Valerie, even with all the awkward moments. “As many times as people would say to me, ‘It must be so hard to play those situations where everyone is so tough on her. Isn’t that grueling?’ I would just stare back, like, blink, blink, blink. Grueling? Not at all,” she said.
She added that a big part of the comedy comes from Valerie’s lack of self-awareness. “Valerie creates her own reality. Yeah, she’s a little delusional, but that’s one of the sources of comedy,” Kudrow explained.
Outside of The Comeback, Kudrow keeps busy with TV and movies. She recently starred in the Apple TV+ series Time Bandits and does voice work for animated shows. Her recent roles show she can do everything from fantasy to serious character stories.
