‘Maleficent’ Star Angelina Jolie Is Officially Saying Goodbye to Los Angeles After Nearly a Decade of Feeling Stuck

Angelina Jolie has spent years navigating life in the spotlight while quietly signaling that Los Angeles was never really where she wanted to be. Now, with a major personal milestone finally behind her, the actress is following through on plans she’s been hinting at for years.

That milestone is her children reaching adulthood. Jolie shares six kids with ex-husband Brad Pitt, Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, both 18, and with her youngest two now legal adults, the custody restrictions that once tied her to the city no longer apply.

That shift is exactly what’s driving her next major move. Jolie has confirmed she’s preparing to leave Los Angeles and split her time across different locations around the world, a decision she discussed candidly in a new interview with L’Officiel. Speaking about the changes ahead, Jolie described the moment as marking the end of an era in her life.

Jolie, born and raised in Los Angeles, raised all six of her children there, but she’s previously made clear that staying wasn’t entirely her choice. In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she explained that while she grew up in the city, she remained there specifically because of her custody arrangement following her divorce from Pitt, adding that she’d finally be free to leave once her youngest children turned 18.

One of the clearest signs that her departure is actually happening arrived back in May, when Jolie listed her historic Los Feliz estate for sale at $29.85 million. The property, a piece of cinematic history originally built in 1913, spans two acres and includes six bedrooms and ten bathrooms, and Jolie purchased it back in 2017 in the aftermath of her split from Pitt.

According to earlier reporting, the home has since undergone renovations and was being shown to pre-qualified buyers as Jolie prepared for her eventual exit. Sources have indicated she’s been eyeing several international locations, with reports pointing specifically to places like Cambodia, where her son Maddox was born and where she maintains deep humanitarian ties, along with France and parts of Africa tied to her ongoing charitable work.

That international pull fits neatly into how Jolie has described her broader vision for this next chapter. She’s expressed interest in continuing her work with the United Nations while giving back to communities in Cambodia, Vietnam, and across Africa, alongside deepening her focus on directing and producing rather than centering her life around traditional acting work in Hollywood.

Jolie has also been open in the past about how disconnected she’s felt from the city’s culture more broadly. She’s described Hollywood as not being a particularly healthy environment, framing her eventual departure as less about escaping a place and more about seeking out authenticity and stability for herself and her children after years of upheaval following her divorce.

Privacy has remained one of her most consistent talking points throughout this transition as well. Jolie has repeatedly emphasized that fame was never something she wanted imposed on her kids, noting in past interviews that several of them, particularly Shiloh, value their privacy deeply and weren’t given much choice in growing up under public scrutiny.

With her youngest children now adults and her sprawling Los Feliz property officially on the market, Jolie’s long-anticipated exit from Los Angeles finally appears to be moving from speculation into reality. For an actress who’s spent years describing this moment as something she was simply waiting for, it seems the wait may finally be over.
