A fraud suspect has been arrested in Hungary after allegedly using stolen credit card details belonging to Johnny Depp to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds over a period of two years. Authorities say the case involved a long-running series of online transactions that went unnoticed for months before being flagged by a financial institution.

According to investigators, the suspect is a 27-year-old man from Jordan who was arrested in Budapest, where he was reportedly renting an apartment. Police say he used the stolen card information for a wide range of online purchases, including accommodation bookings and other digital transactions.

In total, investigators are reviewing around 308 separate transactions. The combined value is estimated at more than £536,000, or around €619,000. Officials say the spending took place between January 2024 and December 2025.

One of the most unusual details in the case is that Depp himself was reportedly unaware of the activity for over two years. According to reports, the transactions were only discovered when his bank noticed suspicious activity and flagged the account.

The investigation began earlier this year when an American financial institution contacted the Hungarian branch of the FBI after detecting unusual withdrawals from one of their client accounts. From there, authorities traced the activity across multiple digital footprints, including IP addresses, email accounts, and a Hungarian phone number linked to the transactions.

Police eventually located the suspect in Budapest and carried out a raid on the property where he was staying. During the search, officers seized electronic devices that are believed to have been used in the alleged fraud scheme.

Authorities also reported finding substances suspected to be illegal drugs inside the apartment, which has led to a separate investigation into possible narcotics possession.

Hungarian police released footage showing officers detaining the suspect and escorting him away in handcuffs. Officials say the man has denied all accusations, but a court has ordered him into pre-trial detention while the investigation continues.

At this stage, investigators are still trying to determine how the stolen credit card details were obtained. They are considering several possibilities, including a data breach, online theft, or exposure through a previous transaction. No single cause has been confirmed.

Depp has spent time in Hungary in recent years while working on film projects, including “Modi.” During his stays, he has been seen filming in several well-known locations around Budapest, including areas near Buda Castle and the Hungarian State Opera House.

Police say the investigation remains active and further arrests have not been ruled out. They are continuing to examine the full scope of the alleged fraud and whether others may have been involved.

The case has drawn attention because of both the scale of the spending and the fact that it reportedly continued for such a long period without being noticed by the account holder. Authorities say more details may emerge as the investigation develops.
